Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

- Drive customer image quality for General Imaging Ultrasound products, including clinical image quality performance, workflow usability, and translation of customer and clinical feedback into engineering requirements.
- Drive ultrasound imaging signal processing and signal path architecture across transmit, receive, beamforming, reconstruction, and downstream imaging subsystems.
- Drive ultrasound imaging image processing strategy, including image optimization, post-processing, display pipeline considerations, and related clinical imaging workflows.
- Provide systems architecture leadership across hardware, software, probe, imaging, acoustic output, and clinical workflow functions to deliver high-quality ultrasound products.
- Responsible for requirements development, traceability and flow down, architecture / system design and analysis, FMEA, and development / execution of System Verification and Validation test procedures.
- Develop methods to quantify subsystem interactions and their effects on product performance, including signal path, image processing, acoustic output, probe behavior, and clinical image quality.
- Participate in software implementation for innovative future ultrasound projects using MATLAB and C++.
- Work across functions and team boundaries to define, design, and implement the next generation of ultrasound products.
- Work with customers, Product Managers, GE clinical team, and field personnel to refine requirements that can be implemented by engineering teams.
- Support manufacturing and the global installed base, and incorporate feedback into new hardware, software, and service specifications.
- Lead continuous improvement activities by driving the implementation of process and product quality improvement initiatives.
- Comply with the Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Identify and report quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required.
- Maintain full Quality System Regulation (QSR), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), regulatory compliance, and other legal requirements.
- Ensure compliance and closure of Regulatory and Quality requirements before approving Design Outputs and Program Deliverables.

Required Qualifications

- Master’s degree or equivalent in Ultrasound, Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field AND 2 years of related experience in ultrasound and/or Imaging.
- PhD in related field with no experience is accepted as well.
- Ultrasound physics, imaging signal processing, signal path, and image processing knowledge at a graduate level required.
- Software proficiency in both MATLAB and C++. This would include, but not be limited to, the ability to create standalone code in both MATLAB and C++ and navigate and debug large code sets in both languages.

Desired Characteristics

- Master’s degree plus 5 years work experience in ultrasound.  PhD plus 2 years work experience in ultrasound.
- High level understanding of artificial intelligence and deep learning imaging techniques, including practical use of AI in ultrasound image formation, image quality optimization, workflow assistance, classification, segmentation, or related clinical imaging objectives.
- Experience with ultrasound probe design and the ability to relate probe specifications to customer impact. Knowledge of acoustic power, acoustic output management, and applicable IEC ultrasound standards is a strong plus.
