Job Title: Hydronic Piping Superintendent Job Description
The Hydronic Piping Superintendent directs and coordinates all hydronic and process piping field activities on complex industrial projects. This role oversees field crews and subcontractors, ensures high-quality installation of hydronic and industrial piping systems, and drives project safety, productivity, and schedule performance. The superintendent collaborates closely with project management, engineering, and BIM/VDC teams to deliver technically sophisticated projects in sectors such as pharmaceutical, life science, semiconductor, manufacturing, power generation, data centers, and other advanced industrial facilities.
Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate all hydronic and process piping field activities on assigned projects from mobilization through completion.
- Supervise General Foremen, Foremen, pipefitters, welders, and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work performance.
- Develop detailed daily and weekly work plans that support overall project milestones and production goals.
- Manage labor productivity, workforce planning, and manpower forecasting to align resources with project demands.
- Monitor installation progress in the field and proactively address challenges, constraints, and conflicts to maintain momentum.
- Oversee installation of chilled water systems, heating hot water systems, condenser water systems, glycol piping systems, process water systems, steam and condensate systems, chemical and utility piping systems, and equipment piping connections.
- Verify proper installation of pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and related mechanical equipment in accordance with specifications and standards.
- Coordinate hydrostatic testing, flushing, cleaning, balancing, and system startup activities for hydronic and process piping systems.
- Support commissioning and turnover efforts by collaborating with commissioning teams and ensuring systems are ready for functional testing.
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture across all field operations, reinforcing safe work practices at all times.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-task planning sessions to communicate hazards, controls, and expectations.
- Identify and mitigate potential hazards before work begins, implementing corrective measures as needed.
- Participate in incident investigations and support implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Review drawings, specifications, isometrics, shop drawings, and BIM coordination models to plan and validate field installations.
- Coordinate inspections, pressure testing, weld documentation, and quality verification activities with project stakeholders.
- Manage punch lists and ensure all deficiencies are corrected promptly and to the required quality standards.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship throughout all phases of the project and reinforce quality expectations with crews.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, BIM/VDC teams, General Contractors, and Owners to align field execution with project objectives.
- Coordinate field activities with electrical, structural, equipment, and specialty trades to avoid conflicts and rework.
- Participate in progress meetings, planning sessions, and schedule reviews, providing accurate field status and input.
- Assist with procurement planning and material coordination to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials to the field.
- Identify and resolve field installation conflicts and constructability issues in collaboration with engineering and BIM teams.
- Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules that reflect field priorities and critical activities.
- Monitor critical path activities, identify schedule risks, and implement mitigation strategies to protect key milestones.
- Coordinate manpower and material resources to maintain productivity and support continuous workflow.
- Provide regular updates to project leadership regarding progress, production rates, constraints, and potential delays.
- Support the growth and expansion of the organizations presence in regional markets by delivering successful projects and fostering strong client relationships.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of industrial piping or mechanical construction experience.
- 3+ years of experience as a Superintendent, General Foreman, or Senior Foreman overseeing field piping activities.
- Extensive knowledge of hydronic and industrial piping systems, including chilled water, heating hot water, condenser water, glycol, process water, steam and condensate, and chemical and utility systems.
- Strong understanding of pipe fabrication, welding, testing, and commissioning processes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, specifications, isometrics, and BIM models.
- Proven experience managing self-perform craft labor and subcontractors on industrial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of industrial construction safety requirements and OSHA regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively on active industrial construction sites, including working at heights, climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces, and performing physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to travel based on project assignments.

- Experience supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience on data center projects is strongly preferred.
- Experience on semiconductor facilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience on industrial manufacturing plants is strongly preferred.
- Experience on power and energy facilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience on life science facilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience on food and beverage processing plants is strongly preferred.
- Experience on cleanroom construction projects is strongly preferred.
- UA pipefitter apprenticeship completion or an equivalent trade background is preferred.
- OSHA 30 Certification is preferred.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, BIM 360, or similar construction management and coordination platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with commissioning and startup procedures for complex hydronic systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of hydronic and industrial piping standards is preferred.
- Interest in contributing to the growth and expansion of a large mechanical and electrical contractor with a long-standing industry presence.
Work Environment
This role is based on active industrial construction sites and involves daily interaction with field crews, project teams, and trade partners. The superintendent works in environments such as pharmaceutical, life science, semiconductor, manufacturing, power generation, data center, and other advanced industrial facilities. The position requires frequent movement around the jobsite, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as climbing ladders, working at heights, and accessing confined spaces when required. Travel is expected based on project assignments and regional needs. The work environment is highly collaborative and technology-driven, utilizing tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, BIM 360, and BIM/VDC models to coordinate complex installations. Safety is a core value, with regular safety meetings, pre-task planning, and strict adherence to OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
