The Transportation Planner will lead and support a variety of transportation, environmental planning, and applied technology projects. This role requires an experienced professional capable of managing tasks independently, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a key technical resource under the guidance of senior leadership. The ideal candidate brings robust analytical skills, a proven track record in transportation engineering or planning, and a strong capability in leveraging data and emerging technologies to solve complex transportation challenges. This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth, client interaction, and leadership within NCDOT project delivery, environmental planning, and innovative decision-support tools.

The Impact You'll Make:

- Serve as technical lead, major task lead, and possibly deputy project manager on public sector Transportation Projects

- Guide multi-disciplinary teams in delivery of transportation projects

- Execute and deliver high-quality work products, on schedule

- Coordinate with clients, resource/regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and technical staff in a confident and professional manner.

- Lead GIS analysis and the preparation of GIS graphics

- Preparation of visuals for presentation of project information

- Public involvement and multi-agency stakeholder meetings in support of project work

- Provide research and analysis for transportation projects

- Develop client relationships and perform business development functions if necessary

- Stay current on the latest transportation planning subject matter, policies, regulations, and techniques.

- Serve as a Local, Regional and National resource for Egis transportation planning projects

- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Project Management & Deliverable Support

- Ensure all technical reports, figures, tables, and presentations meet the highest professional and clarity standards.

- Coordinate directly with Project Managers, clients, and agency representatives to meet strict deadlines and budget constraints.

- Mentor and guide junior engineers and planners, providing technical QA/QC on their tasks and workflows.

- Maintain meticulous project documentation consistent with firm QA/QC standards.

The Expertise You'll Bring:

- 5+ years of experience working in the transportation planning field.

- AICP Certification (preferred)

- Exceptional writing and verbal skills, specifically with planning documents

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work with a collaborative team

- Strong communication and research skills

- Experience coordinating with clients, stakeholder agencies, and the general public

- Proficiency with technical writing, communication software, technology (GIS software), and tools.

- Completion of degree in Transportation planning, Natural Resources, Urban planning, or related field

- Agency Experience: Proven track record working on NCDOT, MPO, or North Carolina municipal transportation projects.
