Engineering Manager

Our client in North Idaho is currently hiring for an Engineering Manager. This position is an on-site leadership opportunity responsible for overseeing utility engineering operations, distribution system planning, SCADA/ADMS programs, grid modernization initiatives, and engineering team development. This role requires extensive utility industry experience, a Professional Engineer (PE) license, and proven engineering leadership experience. Pay: $129,497 - $180,000 annually Location: Sandpoint, ID (On-Site) Schedule: Standard Monday-Friday (40+ hours per week)

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, drafters, project coordinators, and dispatch personnel Provide technical oversight for Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), SCADA operations, and distribution system reliability programs Manage capital improvement programs, capital budgets, and system work prioritization plans Support short-term and long-range electrical distribution system planning initiatives Oversee maintenance, inspection, and service schedules for utility assets and infrastructure Direct grid modernization, automation, and smart grid implementation projects Monitor power system performance, power quality, reliability metrics, and operational improvements Support utility dispatch operations, switching activities, and system operations coordination Ensure compliance with utility standards, regulatory requirements, and operational procedures Contribute to wildfire mitigation programs, resiliency planning, and reliability enhancement initiatives Drive continuous improvement efforts through technology adoption and operational efficiencies Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support generation facilities and distribution operations

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (power systems emphasis preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) License required with ability to obtain licensure in Idaho and Washington if needed 8+ years of experience supporting electrical distribution systems within the utility industry 5+ years of engineering management experience leading technical utility teams Strong experience with power distribution, transmission, and substation engineering operations Experience managing capital budgets and work prioritization programs Experience overseeing maintenance and service scheduling activities Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) Knowledge of power system operations, dispatch support, switching procedures, and reliability programs Experience with smart grid technologies, automation initiatives, and grid modernization programs Understanding of utility regulatory compliance, power quality standards, and wildfire mitigation strategies Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills

No Professional Engineer (PE) license Limited utility industry experience supporting electrical distribution systems No engineering leadership or people management experience No experience with SCADA or ADMS platforms No experience managing capital projects, budgets, or utility planning initiatives Less than 8 years of relevant utility engineering experience

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $129497.00 - $180000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Benefits - Medical, dental, vision offered 1st of month after hire date. HDHP with HSA contribution equal to the plan's deductible. Life insurance and disability insurance also offered. 2 retirement plans. One is a pension plan, eligible after 1 year of service, fully funded by the company. Eligible for 2% base 401k contribution and up to 5% match (total 7% employer contribution) after 1 year of employment.
