THE ROLE
An experienced Drainage Engineer is responsible for planning, analyzing, designing and support delivery of stormwater, surface-water and subsurface-drainage systems for airside and landside airport infrastructure. The role applies hydrological and hydraulic engineering, flood-risk management, pollution control, sustainable drainage and multidisciplinary coordination to protect aircraft and vehicle operations, pavements, buildings, utilities and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Hydrology & Flood-Risk Assessment: Establish core criteria, build hydraulic models for major airport infrastructure, and craft robust flood mitigation strategies for extreme weather events.
- Stormwater & Infrastructure Design: Size and design everything from traditional pipe networks, attenuation facilities, and pumping stations to complex apron drainage (including oil interception and de-icing containment).
- Sustainability & Resilience: Champion nature-based solutions, climate resilience, and water-quality treatments tailored to strict aviation safety requirements.
- BIM & Cross-Discipline Coordination: Collaborate across teams to resolve clashes in federated models, maintain data integrity within the Common Data Environment (CDE), and streamline construction handovers.
- Smart Engineering & Digital Delivery: Utilize approved AI and automation tools to process data, check model constraints, and optimize deliverables safely within cybersecurity guidelines.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution; a master’s degree in hydraulics, hydrology or water-resources engineering is advantageous.
- Minimum eight years of relevant drainage and stormwater-design experience, including at least three years on airports or major infrastructure projects.
- Hands-on capability in hydraulic and hydrological software such as Civil 3D / Storm and Sanitary Analysis, InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge of rainfall analysis, IDF development, rational and hydrograph methods, hydraulic grade lines, open-channel flow, detention, infiltration and flood-risk assessment.
- Experience with airport apron drainage, pollution control, pavement drainage, sustainable drainage and multidisciplinary grading coordination.
- Advanced AutoCAD and Civil 3D capability; experience with GIS, BIM coordination and Common Data Environment workflows is advantageous.
- Competence in AI-assisted engineering workflows, output validation, data-protection awareness and documentation of assumptions.
- Site experience in drainage construction, inspection, testing, temporary works or commissioning is advantageous.
