The Senior Manager, Business Finance Credit Risk is a senior second-line leadership role responsible for the oversight, decision quality and resilience of AMP Bank's Business Finance credit portfolio. The role provides independent credit judgement, exercises delegated credit authority, leads and develops the Business Finance Credit team and ensures lending activities operate in line with AMP Bank's Risk Appetite Statement, credit policies, prudential obligations and customer expectations.
The role supports prudent portfolio growth through commercially informed challenge of credit proposals, policy exceptions, portfolio trends, emerging risks, watchlist exposures and strategic business initiatives. It plays a key role in strengthening risk culture, enhancing control effectiveness and credit capability, while providing clear risk insights and recommendations to senior management, risk committees and the Board.
How you will make an impact
Policy Development, Governance and Risk Frameworks
- Lead the development and enhancement of Business Finance credit policies, standards and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with AMP Bank's risk appetite, strategic objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Provide subject matter expertise on the interpretation and application of credit policy requirements, supporting consistent and effective credit decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement in credit risk management practices through policy uplift, framework enhancements and governance reporting.
- Identify and implement policy, control and governance improvements arising from emerging risks, portfolio performance, assurance activities and regulatory change.
Credit Risk Oversight and Portfolio Stewardship
- Provide independent second-line oversight of Business Finance credit risk, supporting prudent portfolio growth and effective management of credit, concentration and portfolio risks.
- Deliver commercially informed challenge on lending proposals, portfolio trends, watchlist exposures and strategic business initiatives.
- Monitor portfolio risk indicators and emerging themes, providing insights and recommendations to support proactive risk management.
- Support the Head of Risk through timely analysis, reporting and recommendations on portfolio performance and risk outcomes.
Delegated Credit Authority and Decision Quality
- Exercise delegated credit authority in accordance with AMP Bank's lending framework, credit policies and risk appetite.
- Review, approve or recommend commercial lending transactions, including new facilities, restructures, refinancing and policy exceptions.
- Promote strong credit decision quality through robust risk assessment, financial analysis, covenant management and consistent policy application.
- Support the ongoing development of credit standards and decision quality expectations across the Business Finance Credit team.
Watchlist, Problem Asset and Portfolio Risk Oversight
- Provide independent oversight and challenge of watchlist, deteriorating and higher-risk Business Finance exposures.
- Review remediation, recovery and workout strategies to support effective management of problem assets and minimise potential losses.
- Escalate material risk events, covenant breaches and policy exceptions in line with governance requirements.
- Provide risk-based recommendations to support sound portfolio outcomes and effective risk mitigation.
Strategic Change and Business Support
- Support strategic Business Finance initiatives, including product development, process improvement, automation, reporting enhancement and risk framework uplift activities.
- Assess the credit risk implications of new and amended lending propositions, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and policy requirements.
- Provide risk expertise and challenge across projects and change initiatives to support sustainable growth and effective risk management outcomes.
People Leadership and Capability Uplift
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team with deep expertise in commercial credit risk, policy management and portfolio oversight.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and constructive challenge, promoting effective collaboration across the three lines of defence.
- Build organisational capability and a proactive risk culture through mentoring, knowledge sharing and the early identification of emerging risks.
What you will bring to the role
- Ideally at least 7+ years' experience in credit risk management, commercial credit or business lending within a regulated banking environment, including extensive second-line risk management experience.
- Demonstrated experience exercising delegated credit authority and reviewing complex lending transactions, including approvals, policy exceptions and matters outside delegation
- Deep expertise in commercial credit assessment, including cash-flow lending, financial statement analysis, debt serviceability, business valuations, covenant assessment, security structures and downside repayment scenarios
- Strong credit judgement with the ability to challenge risk grading, serviceability, valuation assumptions, collateral coverage, LGD and alignment to risk appetite
- Expert knowledge of the financial services industry, including APRA, ASIC, APRA Prudential Standards and key regulatory requirements such as APS 220, CPS 220, APS 112, the Banking Code of Practice and PPSA
- Demonstrated experience implementing, monitoring and reporting on credit risk and compliance frameworks, including governance, audit findings, control effectiveness and remediation activities.
- Experience overseeing portfolio risk, watchlist and impaired exposures, including recovery strategies, provision-related inputs, collateral assessment and loss mitigation
- Proven people leadership experience, including leading technical specialists, coaching capability, building
Experience in portfolio analytics, risk reporting and commercial lending portfolios focused on professional services, financial planning, mortgage broking or other recurring revenue and goodwill-backed business models will be highly regarded.

You are an effective communicator who can translate complex risk matters into clear insights for senior management and committees. Comfortable leading through ambiguity, you collaborate effectively across the three lines of defence and work closely with Legal, Finance, Operations, Internal Audit, External Audit and regulators to support prudent growth and sound risk management outcomes.
You are passionate about developing people and fostering high-performing teams, with a focus on coaching, capability uplift, succession planning and continuous improvement. You promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and proactive risk management while helping others build both technical expertise and decision-making capability.
