Mid Backend Engineer

Location: Vilnius (Hybrid or on-site)

Position Summary:

Are you ready for your code to have a real-world impact? We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the OpenUtilities team. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions supporting utility customers. This role works closely with product management, quality assurance, and other engineering team members to deliver high-quality software in an agile environment.

Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services.

- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle.

- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and fellow engineers to deliver customer-focused solutions.

- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and performance issues.

- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.

- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.

- Support product modernization and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

- 3+ years of professional experience developing backend applications and services using C#, C++, .NET, or similar object-oriented technologies.

- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, and scalable application architecture.

- Experience working with source control systems such as Git.

- Experience debugging, testing, and troubleshooting software throughout the development lifecycle.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to code quality and maintainability.

- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, Agile development environment.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

It would be awesome if you have:

- Experience developing enterprise-scale software products.

- Experience with cloud platforms and technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure.

- Experience designing and building APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.

- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices.

- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.

- Knowledge of utility, infrastructure, engineering, GIS, or digital twin software domains.

- Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL.

- German language skills are beneficial for collaborating with customers in the DACH region but are not required for success in this role.

Please note if you are employed full-time, the salary for this position ranges from 3500 EUR gross (before taxes-Lithuania) depending on knowledge and experience.
