CIB Risk Banks & Finance is responsible for assessing the credit risk of financial institutions, assigning internal ratings and defining the maximum risk appetite, both for credit and settlement risk
About the job:
The candidate will join a team of 1 0 professionals covering banks and other financial institutions. The role requires a strong understanding of financial institutions, their financial statements and risk profiles, as well as the products that generate credit and settlement exposure. Staying up to date on markets, regulation and product developments is key to supporting sound risk decisions and contributing to healthy and profitable business growth.
As a Financial Institutions Credit Risk Analyst, the main responsibilities of the position include:
- Credit analysis and risk assessment of financial institutions , with a primary focus on banks. This includes analyzing financial statements and key credit fundamentals, including profitability, asset quality, capital, funding and liquidity, as well as assessing the relevant industry, country, regulatory and market environment.
- Preparation of risk proposals and definition of limits / maximum risk appetite by product , summarized in the Financial Program, and presentation of proposals to the relevant Risk Committees. As part of this process, you will assess the individual credit profile of each institution, calculate its internal rating and determine an appropriate risk appetite across different products and types of exposure.
- Understanding and assessment of the products and transactions generating exposure to financial institutions , considering their specific credit and settlement risk characteristics when defining limits and risk appetite.
- Close and regular interaction with Business , discussing risk needs, proposed transactions and limits prior to their submission to committee. The role also involves coordination with other GRM teams across geographies and with local credit risk teams, which in turn interact with their respective local business areas.
- Participation in cross-functional and multidisciplinary projects , including the development and implementation of new internal rating models and initiatives aimed at introducing AI capabilities into GRM processes.
What are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in candidates who are already performing similar credit risk or counterparty risk functions involving banks or other financial institutions , and who combine strong financial analysis capabilities with a good understanding of financial products.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in Credit Risk, Counterparty Risk or a closely related function within a leading financial institution , with direct experience analyzing banks and/or other financial institutions such as insurance companies, funds or other regulated financial entities.
- Strong accounting and financial analysis skills are essential. Candidates should be comfortable analyzing the financial statements of banks or other financial institutions and assessing their profitability, asset quality, capital, funding, liquidity and overall creditworthiness.
- Good knowledge of financial products and their associated credit and settlement risks is highly valued. In particular, candidates should be able to understand how different products and transactions translate into exposures, limits and risk appetite for financial institution counterparties.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to translate detailed financial, sector and product analysis into clear credit conclusions and risk recommendations for senior decision-making and Risk Committees .
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with Business and Risk stakeholders across different products and geographies.
- University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field. An international academic background and/or studies undertaken in English will be positively valued.
- Advanced level of English (minimum C1). Additional languages (B2 or above) will be positively valued.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint . Familiarity with financial information platforms such as Capital IQ Pro & experience using AI tools and an interest in applying them to credit risk processes will also be valued.
