Job Description

Summary/objective

The director is responsible for the administration and supervision of comprehensive career development/advising services for students, alumnae, and employers.

- Assesses the career planning needs of students and alumnae of the college and plans, develops, and conducts workshops, seminars, and training programs which meet those needs.

- Advise individual students and alumnae on all aspects of career planning, including job search techniques.

- Oversee internship program including meeting with and advising students on opportunities and application processes, soliciting new opportunities and maintaining database of those, and tracking and reporting data to Director of Institutional Research.

- Advertises both credit-bearing and non-credit internships for students at the College. Maintains on-going communications with faculty, supervisors and students regarding the internships including program administration process and evaluation of the student and the program.

- Provides and interprets interest, skills, values and personality inventories to assist students in the career planning process.

- Conducts the Centers annual graduation survey and follow-up survey designed to capture information regarding students post-graduate activities.

- Represents the Center and the College at professional development workshops, national and regional conferences, local events, and at other functions as requested.

- Identifies and implements programs complementary to the Colleges strategic plan.

- Work closely with Office of Alumnae/ Alumni to engage alumni population in internship and career related programs including creation of new opportunities, assisting with housing and other associated costs, programming and networking opportunities.

- Sustains and grows community partnerships with local and regional employers through outreach and regular communications.

- Oversees, maintains and approves the career related web page to ensure that students and alumnae have the most up-to-date information.

- Oversees allocation and use of office budget. Budget work additionally includes drafting proposed budget and planning and adjusting to meet needs of office and managing grant funding for student internships.

- Collaborates with other Experiential Learning Center (ELC) departments to support and expand student experiences.

Position typically works in an office environment.

Physical demands

Requires standing/walking/sitting for extended periods. May occasionally lift 10/15 lbs.

Travel required

May travel infrequently on College business.

Required education and experience

Required education and experience

- Bachelors degree required

- At least 3 years experience in career services or related field

- Excellent administrative and communication skills

- Demonstrated success working with college age students, faculty and administration

- Knowledge of database systems and other technology tools

Preferred education and experience

- Masters degree

- Experience working in a higher education environment.
