Job Description

Summary/objective

The Director of Institutional Research and Assessment oversees institutional data gathering, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination at the College and provides leadership and support for annual planning and assessment processes. This role reports to the President or designee.

To ensure clarity regarding the scope of this position, certain responsibilities commonly associated with similar roles are assigned to other College offices and are therefore not included in this positions responsibilities. Specifically, institutional strategic planning and accreditation reporting are managed by the appropriate College offices and fall outside the scope of this position.

Institutional Research

- Compile and analyze current and historical data on all aspects of College operations and on selected external institutions.

- Maintain comparisons between the College and external institutions, including peer and aspirant institutions.

- Make data and analysis available internally by maintaining an electronic Fact Book and the Common Data Set.

- Disseminate enrollment snapshot to key offices at the beginning of each semester and produced related official enrollment reports.

- Work with the Office of the Registrar to monitor and improve the accuracy of student information systems data.

- Monitor the Registrar and Institution Research Data Request system and respond to all data requests not assignable to the Registrar, including time-sensitive requests by the Office of the President, the Office of Institutional Advancement, and the Office of College Relations.

- Report to external federal, state, and professional agencies (including IPEDS, SCHEV, and the National Student Clearinghouse), college guides, and professional organizations (e.g., VFIC, CICV, AAUP). Act as IPEDS keyholder.

- Coordinate with the Executive Director for Planning and Accreditation in the use of data for institutional planning activities.

- Oversee the application of standardized survey instruments as they arise.

- Monitor and maintain data as it appears in specific areas of the College website.

- Serve on appropriate College committees, including IT-led committees on data governance.

- Participate in professional organizations as appropriate, such as AIR.

Assessment

- Coordinate academic programs, administrative offices, and the Presidents Leadership Team in the creation and maintenance of annual planning and assessment documents in support of the College mission, strategic plan, and principles of continuous improvement.

- Work with supervisors of all major academic and administrative offices to design assessment plans (mission statements, goals, objectives or learning outcomes, measures, and targets), and annual assessment reports (results and action plans).

- Coordinate with the Executive Director for Planning and Accreditation in ensuring that annual planning and assessment documents enact the Randolph College Strategic Plan as appropriate.

- Co-chair the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.

Other

- Manage proposals and approval process for new and revised institutional policies and maintain the Randolph College Policy Library.

- Other duties as assigned.

Work environment

Position typically works in an office environment. May travel infrequently. May occasionally lift 10/15 lbs. or may walk and/or bend in the performance of the job functions. Occasional night and/or weekend work required.

Position requires a full range of body motion, including reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, kneeling, and walking. Must have good vision and hearing, with or without corrective devices.

Required education and experience

- Masters degree or higher in a related field

- 2–5 years experience working directly with annual assessment processes, preferably with both academic programs and administrative offices.

- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience in collaborative project management.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with respect to the explanation of data and instruction in assessment principles.

- Knowledge of computer hardware and software necessary for data gathering, analysis, interpretation and dissemination, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills. (SIS potentially available but not necessary.)

- Proven ability to administer complex and changing operations, work efficiently without supervision, and manage numerous competing deadlines.
