Position Summary

The School of Professional Services is seeking a Video Production Manager to lead the strategy, planning, creation, production, and delivery of video and multimedia content that advances the marketing, recruitment, communications, and event initiatives. Reporting to the Director, Print & Digital Design Production, this hands-on manager supervises video staff members and leads end-to-end video production from intake and prioritization through concept development, scripting, storyboarding, production planning, filming, directing, post-production, quality control, publishing coordination, and final delivery. This manager ensures the discoverability and performance of video content across Google Search, YouTube, social platforms, and emerging AI-driven search and answer experiences by applying current video SEO and platform best practices.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Film and Television, Video or Media Production, Communications, Digital Media, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or a related creative discipline. Coursework or professional experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of video production, post-production, visual storytelling, and digital media is required. Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Film and Television, Media Production, Digital Communication, or a related field preferred. Required Experience: 5+ years professional experience in video production, post-production, multimedia storytelling, or related creative production, including demonstrated experience leading video projects from concept through final delivery and formally leading a video/creative team. Experience managing multiple concurrent productions and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, freelancers, vendors, agencies, or other production partners is required. Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education, an in-house marketing or communications organization, a creative agency, production studio, or a similarly complex environment is preferred. Demonstrated strong creative and technical judgment, the ability to prioritize work and manage production resources, and a record of delivering polished, brand-aligned video and multimedia content for public audiences. Experience directly supervising professional video, creative, or multimedia staff. Building or improving video production workflows, standards, templates, intake processes, review/approval systems, or other scalable production practices. Directing or coordinating freelancers, agencies, vendors, production crews, student creators, or other external contributors. Producing video for higher education, marketing, recruitment, executive communications, brand storytelling, events, or similarly complex stakeholder environments. Producing both short-form and long-form content for YouTube, web, social media, and other digital channels. Experience with motion graphics or animation using After Effects or comparable tools. Digital asset management, metadata, media archival, and organized footage/library management. Supporting accessible and brand-governed digital content environments. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: • Strong creative, editorial, and technical judgment across end-to-end video production, including concept development, interviewing, production planning, directing, filming, editing, and final delivery. • Demonstrated people-management and team-leadership skills, including work assignment and prioritization, coaching, constructive feedback, performance management, professional development, and quality oversight. • Strong project and production management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, schedules, stakeholders, resources, reviews, approvals, and deadlines. • Demonstrated ability to develop scripts, storyboards, interview guides, shot lists, and other pre-production materials that translate strategic and creative objectives into clear, compelling, audience-centered narratives. • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate with senior leaders, faculty, staff, students, creative colleagues, and external production partners and to provide clear creative direction and constructive feedback. ● Advanced proficiency in professional video software programs, with working knowledge of computer software programs that edit, enhance and manipulate digital images, and vector graphic editor computer programs, and related applications. ● Strong working knowledge of professional camera operation, lighting, audio capture, production equipment, media management, and studio and on-location production workflows. ● Working knowledge of video SEO and evolving answer engine optimization (AEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) concepts as they relate to video and multimedia discoverability across Google Search, YouTube, social platforms, and AI-driven search experiences. ● Understanding of video publishing and optimization practices including titles, descriptions, captions/transcripts, chapters and key moments, thumbnails, metadata, topic/keyword alignment, and collaboration with web/SEO colleagues on structured data and related technical requirements. ● Ability to use audience and performance data from YouTube Analytics, Search Console, social platforms, or comparable tools to assess content performance and inform future production and distribution decisions. ● Knowledge of digital accessibility practices for video and multimedia content, including accurate captioning and accessible delivery, and a commitment to maintaining NYU brand and accessibility standards. ● Familiarity with digital asset management, metadata, archival practices, file organization, and scalable creative production workflows. ● Working knowledge of production permissions and documentation, including talent/location releases, licensed creative assets, music usage, copyright considerations, and related production requirements. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: ● Strong organizational and resource management skills with the ability to balance staff capacity and multiple simultaneous projects in a deadline-driven environment. ● Ability to establish clear creative and technical standards while coaching team members and fostering collaboration, accountability, professional growth, and continuous improvement. ● Ability to interpret audience, engagement, and performance data and translate findings into actionable recommendations for content strategy, production, packaging, and distribution. ● Familiarity with evolving YouTube, social, search, video SEO, AEO/GEO, and AI-driven discoverability practices, with the ability to distinguish durable best practices from emerging or unverified tactics. ● Demonstrated curiosity about emerging video formats, production technologies, AI-assisted workflows, and process improvements while maintaining appropriate human oversight, accuracy, accessibility, and brand integrity.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $90,000.00 to USD $110,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
