About this role
This position will serve as the IT Lead who will be responsible for facilitating successful policy/procedure changes driven by compliance requirements, implementing Association IT initiatives, and remaining consistent with Extension Administration guidance surrounding Information Technology. This person will work closely with the Executive Director to establish robust networks of workstations, linked via both internet and intranet, and provide remote maintenance, updates and support to those networks and components (both hardware and software). This person will also perform in person maintenance as requested/ needed for projects within CCE Suffolk and in collaborative projects involving CCE Suffolk and partner organizations as requested. The IT Lead will exercise professional judgment, discretion, and confidentiality in leading the Association’s IT operations in all tasks. Serve as connection to CCE Administration IT Team for guidance on processes and updates.
The Information Technology Lead will assist with overseeing all core technology requirements and systems for the association. This includes maintaining servers, desktop and laptop computers, printers, network, hardware, and software systems and includes:
• Assisting with all technology operations (e.g., network security) and evaluating them according to
• established goals.
• Providing computer and technology support to the organization (both on-site and remotely)
• New user systems set-up and assistance with user training on PC Applications
• Ensuring the reliability of Internet connections with ISP
• Configuring routers and switches
• Maintaining the LAN and wireless network
• Blocking unknown and un-authorized devices from accessing network
• Administrating VoIP services (extensions/Voice mails)
• Managing and maintaining company database
• Inspecting the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and
• efficiency.
• Identifying the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems and report to supervisor.
• Refurbishing old computers and laptops to be used by employees and interns.
• Interacting with external Database developer
• Any other task assigned by the Executive Director
• Travel to site location as per requirement
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent
- 5+ years of related experience which includes network interface and administration, operations and software training, security systems, hardware installation and upgrades, and system installation and management.
- Must be able to work professionally and collegially with local Association level and Extension Administration colleagues.
- Ability to effectively communicate IT terminology and changes to all levels of users.
- Ability to lead new technological changes/updates.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with current IT systems and hardware, preferably those that are currently used by Cornell University and/or Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional methods and electronic technology such as WebEx, Skype, and Zoom.
- Ability to prioritize and balance time equitably across Associations.
POSITION DETAILS:
Salary: $75,000 -$90,000 per year
Schedule: EXEMPT – Reg: 40 hours minumum
No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available

Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction – 25%
- Assist with developing technology policies to ensure a secure, consistent computing environment is maintained and performed at the optimum level.
- Assist with planning for IT related expenses.
- Assist with planning for the Association’ s IT needs.
- Create a new staff computer orientation program to introduce new employees to the network environment as well as software used in the Association, especially Microsoft office including Outlook email and calendar, and other technology equipment such as phones, printers, digital cameras, and scanners.
Management – 40%
- Use and broaden an understanding of one or more operating systems, network environment, hardware platforms and/or application areas in the overall infrastructure of a complex administrative organization.
- Identify and monitor requirements for network preventative maintenance; and recommend or analyze performance.
- Analyze problems and system requirements and make recommendations on software options, user environments, and systems used to optimize productivity and minimize impact on other users or systems.
- Make hardware and software recommendations based upon compatibility with existing network environment, and program needs.
- Provide overall leadership to the IT operation of the Association
- Manage the development and implementation of new applications and changes to existing systems and software.
Coordination/Operation – 30%
- Conduct maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the three main components of the network environment:
- Servers – including upgrading and updating (patching) all software versions running on the network operating system.
- Network Backbone – including all cabling, hubs, switches, and Network interface cards installed in workstations.
- Workstations and Peripherals – including all desktops, laptops, printers, print servers, monitors, modems, scanners, and other Information Technology.
- Perform diagnostic analysis to resolve complex troubleshooting service, effecting repairs to the network or desktop systems infrastructure.
- Interact directly with CCE staff, programs, and systems to ascertain technology-related issues.
- Maintain positive working relationship with Cornell Information Technology, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Office of IT, Shared Business Network IT Guild master and other necessary technology support contacts.
- Maintain and enhance usage of the current video teleconferencing systems. Assist with configuration and set up for any teleconferencing and be available to configure and set up system and other audio/visual equipment for use by groups using the facilities.
- Coordinate purchases, set up, and distribute new equipment, and retire and appropriately dispose of outdated
- Coordinate and conduct a new staff computer orientation program.
Professional Improvement – 5%
- In cooperation with the Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

- Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
- Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
- Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
