Job Description:

This position is a professional services position of a supervisory nature located in the Title Office within the Department of Transportation's Office of Legal Services. This position requires an individual who has a strong real property background, with a high degree of proficiency and experience in title abstracting, reading and understanding property plans, and drafting real estate transactional documents, including closing documents. Duties include preparing and reviewing title work; reviewing technical legal descriptions and comparing them to right-of-way maps and incorporating descriptions into legal documents used in the Department’s condemnation process to acquire property for the construction and rehabilitation of the Department’s transportation infrastructure for the various modes of transportation for which the Department is responsible and for other property conveyances; working with the Department’s Property Office Manager, Chief Surveyor, mappers, and Transportation Counsel to resolve title issues and ensure the accuracy of title and mapping documents; and general real estate paralegal support for the Title Office.

In addition, this position provides supervision and training for the Department’s real estate paralegals in the Title Office.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing real estate transactional experience, title abstracting experience, and the ability to understand and read plans.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelors Degree and four (4) years of paralegal experience in a law firm, court, or legal services agency - or - an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Dental Insurance  – The State of Maine pays 100% of employee-only dental premiums ($365.28 annual value).
- Retirement Plan – The State contributes the equivalent of 14.06% of the employee's pay towards the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS).
