About this role

Manufacturing Engineer (Fluid Systems & Mechanical Design)

Job Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Mid to Senior (2 to 10 Years)
Primary Tools: SolidWorks, ERP/PDM Systems
Domain: Industrial Manufacturing & Fluid Systems

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented, technical, and proactive Manufacturing Engineer to join our expanding engineering and operations team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will act as a pivotal bridge between research & development (R&D), design engineering, and shop-floor production. The ideal candidate will possess 2 to 10 years of hands-on experience in modern manufacturing environments, with documented proficiency in SolidWorks, extensive Bill of Materials (BOM) management, and deep technical comprehension of industrial fluid systems (including hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, manifolds, pumps, and valve automation).

As a Manufacturing Engineer, your primary objective will be to optimize the transition of complex mechanical and fluidic designs into scalable, cost-effective, and highly repeatable manufacturing workflows. You will lead process development, design specialized tooling and fixtures, resolve complex manufacturing bottlenecks, and establish robust quality assurance standards that ensure zero-defect production runs.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

The candidate will be expected to execute tasks across several critical operational domains:

1. Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineering

- Utilize SolidWorks 3D CAD extensively to review, modify, and optimize detailed mechanical parts, sub-assemblies, and integrated systems for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

- Design, model, and validate custom tooling, assembly jigs, inspection fixtures, and testing apparatus to support high-precision manufacturing operations.

- Generate and maintain comprehensive 2D manufacturing drawings conforming strictly to ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.

- Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses to prevent assembly interference and ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.

2. Bill of Materials (BOM) & Lifecycle Management

- Develop, structure, and maintain accurate multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) within our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.

- Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), ensuring all technical documentation, cost impacts, revision histories, and routing instructions are systematically logged and communicated.

- Collaborate closely with supply chain and procurement teams to identify alternate components, address obsolescence issues, and optimize material sourcing costs without compromising quality or system integrity.

3. Fluid Systems Design, Assembly & Testing

- Oversee the manufacturing, integration, and validation of complex fluid handling systems , including high-pressure/low-pressure hydraulics, pneumatic control lines, process piping, fluid manifolds, fittings, valves, and flow meters.

- Create and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), fluid schematics, and fluidic routing blueprints.

- Develop robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fluid line flushing, pressure testing (hydrostatic and pneumatic), vacuum decay leak testing, and automated valve calibration.

- Troubleshoot real-time fluid dynamics failures on the shop floor, such as cavitations, pressure drops, seal degradations, fluid contamination, and assembly leaks.

4. Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

- Champion Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) to reduce cycle times, eliminate production waste, and maximize labor productivity.

- Formulate, validate, and document work instructions, assembly visual aids, routing sheets, and quality inspection criteria for production line technicians.

- Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations utilizing methodologies such as 8D, 5-Whys, and Ishikawa diagrams for non-conforming parts and customer returns.

- Design and implement line balancing strategies to increase throughput and reduce overall assembly cycle times.

Qualifications and Technical Requirements

We evaluate candidates based on their technical background, demonstrated problem-solving abilities, and relevant industrial exposure. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

- Education: Bachelors Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.

- Work Experience: 2 to 10 years of direct work experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or industrial production environment. Title and compensation will be aligned with the exact years and depth of experience (Mid-Level: 2–5 years; Senior-Level: 6–10 years).

- CAD Proficiency: Advanced, proven expertise in SolidWorks (CSWA/CSWP/CSWE certification is a major plus), including 3D parametric modeling, large assembly management, sheet metal, weldments, and drafting.

- BOM & Data Control: Demonstrated expertise in configuring, maintaining, and updating complex mechanical and electromechanical BOMs in ERP/MRP software (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Epicor) and SolidWorks PDM/Windchill.

- Fluid Dynamics & Systems: Comprehensive understanding of fluid mechanics, fluid power systems, fluid routing, and fluid connection standards (JIC, NPT, ORFS, SAE Flanges, Swagelok).

- Standards & Quality: Strong background with GD&T (ASME Y14.5), statistical process control (SPC), gauge R&R, and ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.

- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills with the capacity to interface effectively with technicians, vendors, mechanical design engineers, and executive management.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

- Experience with automated fluid dispensing systems, liquid filtration systems, or high-purity chemical plumbing.

- Knowledge of PLC controls, automated assembly equipment, or sensor integration (pressure transducers, flow transmitters).

- Familiarity with CNC machining, metal fabrication, injection molding, and rapid prototyping workflows.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive, comprehensive benefits package structured to support our employees' professional growth and personal well-being:

- Competitive annual salary based on experience and qualification level ($80,000 – $125,000 per year).

- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with extensive family coverage options.

- 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with company match up to 5%.

- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) package plus 10 paid statutory holidays per year.

- Company-sponsored life insurance and short/long-term disability plans.

- Annual professional development stipend for certifications, CAD training, and continuing education.

- Performance-based annual bonus structure.
