Veterinary Discharge Coordinator
Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) | Fort Wayne, IN
$19–$22 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Alternating weeks of three 12-hour shifts (2 PM–2 AM) and four 10-hour shifts (2 PM–12 AM)
A well-organized discharge helps patients get home with the medications and instructions they need. NIVES is seeking a Discharge Coordinator to support that process across our emergency and specialty hospital.
In this role, you’ll prepare medications prescribed by veterinarians, organize discharge materials, and coordinate with our medical and client service teams. You’ll help make the process accurate, timely, and easier for clients to understand.
What you’ll do
- Count, measure, package, and label medications according to veterinarian prescriptions and hospital procedures.
- Process prescription requests and refills, maintain records, and coordinate with outside pharmacies when needed.
- Monitor upcoming discharges and organize medications, written instructions, and follow-up information.
- Work with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and client service team members to resolve outstanding discharge needs.
- Communicate discharge readiness to the clinical and client service teams.
- Review medication labels and veterinarian-approved instructions with clients within hospital policy.
- Follow medication verification procedures and promptly report discrepancies or safety concerns.
- Refer medical questions, medication changes, and concerns requiring clinical judgment to a veterinarian.
What you’ll bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience handling medications or coordinating detailed workflows in a veterinary, pharmacy, or healthcare setting.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform medication calculations accurately.
- Organization and the ability to adjust priorities in a busy hospital.
- Clear, compassionate communication with clients and coworkers.
- Good judgment about when to bring a question or concern to a veterinarian or licensed veterinary professional.
Pay and benefits
- $19–$22 per hour, depending on experience.
