LC-MS Operator 2nd shift: 12:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

Job Description

The LC-MS Operator supports a high-throughput bioanalytical laboratory by operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining LC-MS and HPLC instrumentation. This role is heavily focused on instrument management, batch setup, scheduling, maintenance, and technical support for chemists and study teams. Key Responsibilities

- Operate, monitor, and maintain LC-MS and HPLC instruments.
- Start, manage, and troubleshoot analytical batches.
- Coordinate scheduling and utilization of over 50 mass spectrometry systems.
- Support approximately 60 chemists with instrumentation needs.
- Train and mentor chemists on instrument operation and best practices.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and technical investigations.
- Identify and resolve instrument, reagent, and method-related issues.
- Communicate status updates and findings to Study Directors and team members.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and instrument documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to instrumentation and workflows.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related science field.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience, including wet chemistry techniques.
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting HPLC systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience investigating technical issues.
- Knowledge of LC-MS principles and analytical instrumentation.
- Experience with instrument maintenance, calibration, and documentation.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior LC-MS or mass spectrometry experience.
- Experience with Analyst software or similar data acquisition platforms.
- Experience training or mentoring laboratory staff.
- Familiarity with GMP, GLP, or regulated laboratory environments.

Work Environment

This position is based in a bioanalytical laboratory and involves extensive hands-on work with LC-MS and HPLC instruments. You'll work closely with chemists, Study Directors, and laboratory staff while supporting a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
