Avion Solutions Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a Systems Engineer Intern to support the Propulsion Drives Branch of the Maneuver Air Directorate. This position provides foundational engineering support across risk identification, reliability modeling, failure analysis, and system safety evaluations, and is located in Huntsville, AL.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Provide entry-level analytical and technical support for risk analysis, system reliability, and maintainability evaluations.
- Assist in performing failure modes, effects, and criticality analyses (FMEA/FMECA) and developing fault tree analyses (FTA) for complex systems and components.
- Support reliability modeling, prediction, and statistical data analysis using historical failure rates and test data.
- Participate in reliability design reviews to identify potential single-point failures and enhance overall system availability.
- Assist in reviewing test plans, test reports, and environmental test data for reliability testing, qualification, and acceptance protocols.
- Assist with root cause failure analysis, defect reporting, and trending of mechanical and electrical assembly failures.
- Support the review and development of reliability and maintainability documentation, standard operating procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in project risk reviews, technical syncs, and team engineering meetings.
- Assist in documenting reliability models, methodologies, and technical risk assessments in standard electronic formats (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Perform information searches, correlate technical data, and conduct trade studies to support system safety and risk analysis initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
- Must be a Junior or higher, currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of fundamental reliability engineering, risk analysis, and system safety concepts.
- Familiarity with probability, statistical methods, and data analysis principles used in engineering applications.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Ability to gather technical data, perform routine mathematical/statistical calculations, and summarize findings in clear, concise reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with foundational technical writing capability.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. [
- Must be a U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain/maintain a DoW security clearance.
- Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time.
