Lab Technician

Job Title: Lab Technician Night Shift Job Description This night shift Lab Technician role focuses on processing and analyzing oil, fuel, and coolant samples to support predictive maintenance for heavy equipment. You will work in a fast-paced, industrial laboratory environment, performing analytical testing using instruments such as ICP, IR, GC, and viscosity analyzers while following strict SOPs and quality standards. The position offers extensive cross-training on multiple lab stations, clear career paths into senior technical and clerical roles, and the opportunity to develop strong analytical and multitasking skills in a supportive, team-oriented setting. Responsibilities

- Process laboratory samples accurately and efficiently according to established SOPs and quality guidelines.
- Dilute samples for ICP analysis, perform visual checks, and program the ICP computer to run tests correctly.
- Run samples for FTIR, select appropriate reference oils, and establish accurate computer transfer of FTIR data.
- Complete detailed visual notes on coolant, fuel, and oil samples to support accurate interpretation and reporting.
- Assist in running daily verification samples to ensure instruments and methods remain in control and compliant.
- Handle rush samples by quickly re-prioritizing workload while maintaining accuracy and adherence to procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment in good working condition by following cleaning, calibration, and basic maintenance routines.
- Prepare and process samples, including sorting, labeling, and organizing them for various analytical stations.
- Walk to pick up samples from various parts of the facility, including busy production areas, and transport them safely to the lab.
- Follow all lab SOPs, GMP, and quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure reliable and traceable results.
- Perform wet chemistry and analytical testing of samples using techniques such as ICP, IR, gas chromatography, and viscosity measurements.
- Record data accurately in laboratory systems, ensuring clear documentation, good lab notes, and traceable records for client projects.
- Collaborate closely with the lab team to communicate priorities, redistribute tasks, and meet strict sample deadlines.
- Participate in cross-training across all lab stations, including ICP, IR, GC, viscosity, particle count, and sample sorting/preparation.
- Support a high-volume production environment by helping process approximately 1,0001,100 samples per day as a team.
- Adapt to a repetitive workflow while maintaining focus, accuracy, and attention to detail throughout the shift.
- Apply constructive feedback from leadership and peers to continuously improve performance and quality of work.

Essential Skills

- Experience in a fast-paced environment where you work on your feet, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and re-prioritize quickly to meet deadlines.
- Hands-on experience or education in laboratory work, including sample preparation, wet chemistry, and analytical testing of samples.
- Ability to follow SOPs and understand the importance of laboratory guidelines, client specifications, and quality standards.
- Knowledge of or exposure to analytical techniques such as ICP, IR (FTIR), gas chromatography, and viscosity testing.
- Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance practices, including running verification samples and following GMP principles.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to record accurate data, maintain good lab notes, and ensure traceability of results.
- Effective communication skills and a team-oriented mindset, with the ability to coordinate and collaborate in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work in a production-focused lab that processes high sample volumes and requires consistent productivity.
- Willingness to work hard, learn continuously, and adapt to changing priorities and station rotations.
- Capacity to accept and apply constructive performance feedback to improve techniques and workflows.
- Basic computer proficiency for operating laboratory software, programming instruments, and recording data.
- Comfort working in an industrial setting that may be noisy and requires walking to and from production areas to collect samples.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in biology is highly preferred, especially when combined with experience in fast-paced roles such as serving or bartending.
- Prior experience in a laboratory, quality control, or quality assurance environment is beneficial.
- Experience following GMP or similar regulated procedures is an advantage.
- Exposure to predictive maintenance, used oil analysis, or fuel testing is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines and work in a production environment serving external or internal clients.
- Interest in cross-training and developing skills on instruments such as ICP, IR, GC, viscosity analyzers, and particle counters.
- Motivation to pursue career growth into senior lab technician, project clerk, evaluator, or other internal roles.
- Strong adaptability and resilience in repetitive tasks while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Aurora, CO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
