Systems Engineer, AI-Powered Diagnostics & Observability

About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading organization in its industry, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the design and evolution of intelligent diagnostics and observability solutions. This role involves working across software systems, cloud technologies, AI/ML workflows, and systems engineering disciplines to help improve issue detection, diagnostic analysis, reasoning workflows, and operational effectiveness.
## Key Responsibilities
Help define system-level requirements, interfaces, and workflows for advanced diagnostics and observability solutions. Support the development of AI-enabled diagnostic capabilities that improve issue detection, case quality, root-cause analysis, and guided resolution. Collaborate across embedded systems, cloud platforms, data environments, and AI/ML technologies to deliver integrated solutions. Translate business, engineering, and operational needs into technical requirements for systems, APIs, workflows, and support tools. Support AI/ML-driven capabilities such as knowledge retrieval, decision support, validation, orchestration, and diagnostic reasoning. Define and refine requirements related to diagnostic evidence collection, including logs, event traces, system state information, and procedural outcomes. Participate in the evaluation and validation of AI system performance using operational, diagnostic, and engineering data. Work with internal and external teams to integrate containerized AI solutions into cloud-based environments and workflow systems. Help define observability requirements, including metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts, logging, and escalation processes. Participate in system integration activities, issue triage, root-cause investigations, and technical problem solving. Support testing, deployment, and iterative improvement of AI-enabled diagnostic solutions. Communicate technical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders. Work under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals.
## Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Data Science, or a related field. Understanding of: Software Systems Strong proficiency in Python. Familiarity with AI/ML engineering concepts including: Machine learning Large Language Models (LLMs) Retrieval workflows Inference systems Model evaluation Data pipelines Familiarity with AI/ML prototyping and engineering workflows, such as prompt-based systems, retrieval-augmented solutions, embeddings, ranking, or reasoning pipelines. Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals, APIs, Git-based development practices, and containerized application workflows. Interest in embedded systems, intelligent diagnostics, and software-driven products. Ability to translate ambiguous business or technical challenges into structured requirements and system behavior. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Demonstrated experience through professional work, internships, research, or academic projects building or prototyping AI/ML-enabled solutions.
## Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline. Experience with: LLMs Semantic retrieval Vector search Ranking systems Agent-based workflows Decision-support systems Experience using tools and platforms such as: PyTorch TensorFlow scikit-learn LangChain Vertex AI BigQuery Experience developing chatbots, copilots, AI assistants, search systems, or reasoning systems. Familiarity with AI evaluation concepts including grounding, confidence, traceability, explainability, and policy compliance. Exposure to embedded software systems, diagnostics, connected technologies, or electronic control systems. Familiarity with diagnostic workflows, log analysis, and operational telemetry data. Experience with cloud platforms, Docker, GitHub, CI/CD practices, and observability tools such as Dynatrace or Grafana. Experience with distributed systems, platform integrations, or cloud-native services. Ability to thrive in an agile, collaborative, cross-functional environment. Strong curiosity, ownership mindset, and willingness to learn in a technically complex domain.
## Work Schedule
Hybrid work arrangement. Required onsite presence: 4 days per week . Candidates must be available to work onsite from the start of the assignment. In-person interviews may be required.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $67.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
