Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer New Product Development (Maritime & Autonomous Systems) Job Description This role focuses on leading the mechanical design and development of next-generation maritime and autonomous systems from initial concept through prototype, verification, and transition to manufacturing. You will create robust mechanical solutions, develop complete technical data packages, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate advanced technologies into military and commercial oceanography products. Responsibilities

- Support the development of next-generation maritime and autonomous systems from concept through prototype and product realization.
- Create mechanical designs, 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation for new products and technologies.
- Develop and maintain complete technical data packages for new and existing mechanical designs.
- Participate in system architecture discussions, trade studies, design reviews, and technology evaluations.
- Build, integrate, and test prototypes to validate new concepts and product capabilities.
- Apply principles and techniques of mechanical engineering to research, develop, design, and test verified design solutions.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design refinement during development and testing activities.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, systems, and test engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Support customer demonstrations, field testing, and technology maturation efforts.
- Lead and support system and subsystem designs for integration into autonomous systems, including military and commercially available oceanography products.
- Work within a cross-functional design team to bring designs through first article, test, integration, and delivery to manufacturing.
- Provide engineering support to both design and manufacturing throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives related to mechanical design, testing, and manufacturing handoff.
- Create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) associated with mechanical designs and assemblies.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with mechanical product development and 3D CAD design using tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, design processes, and prototype development.
- Proficiency in creating mechanical designs, 3D models, detailed engineering drawings, and supporting technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) for precise mechanical design and documentation.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical hardware development, integration, and testing.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design refinement for mechanical systems.
- Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs) and mechanical assembly structures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly technical environment.
- Mechanical engineering experience related to testing, verification, and validation of design solutions.

- Experience with mechanical design for maritime, oceanography, or autonomous systems applications.
- Familiarity with advanced technology programs and emerging mechanical technologies.
- Experience supporting customer demonstrations and field testing of mechanical or integrated systems.
- Background in process improvement related to mechanical design, testing, or manufacturing transfer.
- Exposure to cross-functional engineering environments involving electrical, software, systems, and test disciplines.
- Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for future product development.
- Strong communication skills for contributing to design reviews, architecture discussions, and technical documentation.

Work Environment This is an onsite position based in Pocasset, MA, within a dynamic and highly technical engineering environment. You will work as part of a cross-functional design team responsible for taking mechanical designs from concept through first article, test, integration, and delivery to manufacturing. The environment emphasizes collaboration with electrical, software, systems, and test engineers to research, develop, design, and validate mechanical solutions for maritime and autonomous systems. Daily work involves extensive use of 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD, as well as hands-on activities in labs and test areas to build, integrate, and evaluate prototypes. The team focuses on applying core mechanical engineering principles to deliver reliable, production-ready designs and continuously improve design and development processes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.50 - $64.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
