Position Summary
The Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist serves as the primary bridge between the Training department and operational business units. This role is responsible for intaking field training requests, writing comprehensive, original curriculum outlines and assessments, and ensuring all training strictly adheres to compliance standards and strategic company goals. Additionally, the L&D Specialist conducts update sessions with field instructors and maintains high-level governance over LMS course portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Intake & Needs Analysis: Partners with operational leaders to assess performance gaps and translate operational needs into instructional strategies.
- Curriculum & Assessment Writing: Write original, comprehensive course outlines, lesson plans, storyboards, and validated assessments aligned with adult learning principles.
- Field Instructor Oversight: Conducts Train-the-Trainer briefings and creates detailed Facilitator Guides to ensure field trainers cleanly execute established lesson plans.
- Compliance & Goal Alignment: Audit and design learning materials to ensure strict adherence to industry compliance, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.
- Portfolio & Quality Governance: Manage high-level course portfolio alignment within the LMS and hand off fully scoped blueprints to the Content Designer.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3+ years in instructional design, curriculum writing, or L&D business partnering.
- Methodologies: Deep knowledge of adult learning theory, Blooms Taxonomy, and framework models (ADDIE/SAM).
- Skills: Strong stakeholder management, technical writing, coaching, and compliance audit capabilities. Law Enforcement or Military experience required.
Qualifications
As a candidate you must have:
Bachelors degree in business, criminal justice, education, or adult learning or equivalent
One plus years experience in training design and delivery and program management and utilization of technology presentation programs and databases
Proficient in PC and iOS hardware and software
Complete and maintain state guard training certification as prescribed by presiding state law, all client requested certification, and CPR/First Aid/AED instructor certification; all documentation and fees are the responsibility of the employee unless otherwise noted>
Must be a dependable team player with business maturity and enthusiasm with the ability to deliver high level of customer service
Domestic and/or International Travel up to 25% of time as needed
Have flexibility to work any shifts on any day of the week (Mon-Sun) and willingness to assist the team when needed
