Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description This role focuses on designing sheet metal components and assemblies for finishing systems, with a strong emphasis on 3D modeling and detailed manufacturing documentation. You create and refine 2D and 3D models, prepare production-ready drawings, and collaborate closely with engineering and project teams to ensure that designs meet performance, quality, and aesthetic requirements. This position offers the opportunity to grow within the metal fabrication and manufacturing space and to potentially progress from a designer role into an engineering position. Responsibilities

- Design sheet metal components and assemblies for finishing systems, ensuring manufacturability, durability, and quality.
- Create accurate 2D and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, with SolidWorks preferred for 3D work.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, and specifications for production.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to align designs with project goals, timelines, and technical requirements.
- Utilize product data management tools and Autodesk Vault to organize, track, and maintain design files and revisions.
- Apply parametric modeling and design automation techniques to improve efficiency and consistency across projects.
- Optimize product aesthetics and functionality, balancing visual appeal with performance and ease of manufacturing.
- Manage design projects from concept through to production, coordinating with manufacturing and floor personnel as needed.
- Incorporate considerations related to powder coating and finishing processes into sheet metal designs.
- Work with BIM-related tools such as Revit and Navisworks when required for project coordination and integration.
- Support HVAC and HVAC design-related projects as needed, ensuring that sheet metal designs meet system requirements.
- Participate in hands-on reviews on the manufacturing floor to validate designs and support continuous improvement.
- Contribute to a collaborative design and manufacturing team environment and support ongoing process and product enhancements.

Essential Skills

- Proven experience as a mechanical designer specializing in sheet metal design for finishing systems.
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for 3D modeling and design of sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Experience using AutoCAD for 2D drafting and design documentation.
- Ability to create detailed, production-ready manufacturing drawings and documentation in 3D.
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication
- Experience designing within Inventor or SolidWorks, with SolidWorks preferred for 3D modeling.
- Familiarity with product data management practices and tools, including Autodesk Vault.
- Competence in parametric modeling and design automation techniques.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and project managers to meet project objectives.
- Comfort working in a long-term designer role with the potential to move into an engineering position.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Associate-level education or a bachelors degree in a relevant field such as mechanical design or engineering.
- Experience with BIM tools such as Revit and Navisworks for project coordination.
- Exposure to HVAC and HVAC design projects and related sheet metal applications.
- Understanding of powder coating and finishing requirements for metal products.
- Interest in career growth within metal fabrication and manufacturing, including progression into engineering roles.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to balance aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability in designs.

Work Environment This position is based onsite in an office environment working closely with the engineering team, with regular time spent on the manufacturing floor to get hands-on with products and processes. You work with technologies including Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Vault, BIM tools, and other design and data management systems. The role operates within a collaborative design and manufacturing culture that encourages career growth and learning. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
