Facility Engineer

Last Energy seeks a full-time Facility Engineer to serve as the engineering system owner of the PWR-5 Reactor facility. This role is responsible for the complete configuration, maintenance, and change management program for the PWR-5 — acting as the authoritative bridge between engineering and operations and ensuring the facility meets all applicable DOE requirements. The Facility Engineer will maintain an up-to-date, rigorous picture of the facility at all times, own the Master Equipment List, and develop and sustain the maintenance management program that keeps the PWR-5 operating safely and in compliance. This is a technically demanding, high-ownership role at the center of Last Energy's reactor deployment program.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

- Serve as the single technical owner of the PWR-5 facility configuration — maintaining an accurate, continuously updated record of all systems, structures, and components

- Build, own, and maintain the Master Equipment List (MEL) for the PWR-5 facility, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and version control at all times

- Develop and manage a comprehensive maintenance management plan covering preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance across all facility systems

- Evaluate, document, and justify proposed changes to facility configuration, systems, or components — ensuring all modifications are properly reviewed, validated, and approved before implementation

- Act as the primary technical liaison between the engineering and operations teams, ensuring operational realities are reflected in engineering documentation and vice versa

- Support DOE compliance requirements related to facility configuration management, change control, and maintenance program documentation

- Conduct regular facility walkdowns and system reviews to identify discrepancies between as-built conditions and design documentation, and drive resolution

- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams on facility modifications, equipment procurement, and maintenance activities

- Maintain a running log of all facility configuration changes, open action items, and maintenance history, providing regular status updates to engineering and operations leadership

- Support incident reviews, root cause analyses, and corrective action programs as they relate to facility systems and equipment

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, nuclear, electrical, or systems engineering, or a related field required

- 10+ years of experience in operations engineering, plant engineering, or a related role, preferably in a nuclear, power generation, or highly regulated industrial environment

- Strong systems-level thinking with demonstrated ability to understand and document complex system interactions and interdependencies

- Hands-on plant or facility experience — must be comfortable working in and around operating or construction-phase industrial facilities

- Meticulous attention to detail; proven track record of maintaining rigorous configuration and equipment records in a high-stakes environment

- Familiarity with configuration management principles, change control processes, and maintenance management programs

- Experience working within DOE, NRC, or equivalent regulatory frameworks is highly preferred

- Strong written communication skills; ability to produce clear, audit-ready technical documentation

- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive tasks to closure without close supervision

- Willingness to travel frequently to the RELLIS campus and other facility sites as required
