Job Title: Hardware Test Engineer Job Description
The Hardware Test Engineer performs black box hardware testing for medical device products by following established test procedures, using traditional electronic lab equipment, and thoroughly documenting test results in a regulated environment. This role combines hands-on work in an electronics lab with desk-based documentation and test development activities to support validation and design verification of complex hardware systems.
Responsibilities
- Follow detailed test procedures to perform black box hardware testing on medical device products.
- Conduct hardware systems testing in a lab setting, ensuring tests align with validation and design verification requirements.
- Use traditional lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and signal generators to perform electrical and electronic tests.
- Execute manual testing of electronic products and record measurements, observations, and outcomes accurately.
- Develop and refine test plans, test procedures, and test cases for hardware and electronic systems as needed.
- Document test results clearly and comprehensively in accordance with regulated industry standards and internal quality processes.
- Support test engineering activities related to hardware testing, validation, and design verification for medical products.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to communicate findings, identify issues, and contribute to troubleshooting and resolution.
- Ensure proper setup, configuration, and safe use of test equipment and hardware under test in the lab environment.
- Maintain organized records of test data, test configurations, and equipment usage to support traceability and audits.
Essential Skills
- 2+ years of hardware systems testing experience in a lab setting.
- 2+ years of hands-on testing of electronic products, preferably in a regulated industry.
- Experience performing hardware testing and manual testing on medical device products or similar electronic systems.
- Proficiency using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and signal generators.
- Experience with test engineering activities including validation and design verification.
- Ability to follow and execute detailed test plans, test procedures, and test development documentation.
- Strong skills in documenting test results in a regulated industry environment.
- Excellent written communication skills for clear and accurate reporting.
- Associates degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with medical products or other highly regulated hardware systems.
- Familiarity with electrical testing, electronics, and general hardware test methodologies.
- Exposure to test equipment management and lab best practices.
- Comfort working on fast-paced projects with evolving test requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
Work Environment
The role offers a laid-back and collaborative work environment with a balance of desk work and electronic lab work, where time is split between these two settings. The workspace includes a modern cubicle area for documentation and planning, as well as well-equipped lab facilities for hands-on hardware and electrical testing using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, and other test equipment. The culture supports fast-paced projects while maintaining a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The facility provides recreational areas, including ping pong tables, a workout area, and a basketball court used for basketball and floor hockey. The dress code is casual, typically jeans and a collared shirt.

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
