Job Title: Revenue Cycle Management Specialist (Medical Biller) Job Description The Revenue Cycle Management Specialist will manage end-to-end medical billing operations for independent primary care practices across the United States. As an early member of a newly formed internal RCM team, you will initially focus on practices utilizing Athenahealth and play a key role in building scalable billing processes, supporting both onshore and offshore resources in a fully remote, high-growth healthcare environment. Responsibilities
- Manage the full revenue cycle process for assigned medical practices, from charge entry through payment posting and collections.
- Submit, track, and monitor insurance claims using Athenahealth, ensuring accurate and timely claim submission.
- Perform accounts receivable follow-up and collections activities to reduce aging and improve cash flow.
- Investigate claim denials, identify root causes, submit appeals, and resolve reimbursement issues promptly.
- Review aging reports regularly, prioritize outstanding receivables, and take action to resolve open balances.
- Communicate with insurance carriers to verify claim status, clarify payment discrepancies, and secure appropriate reimbursement.
- Document all billing activities thoroughly and maintain accurate, up-to-date billing records and account notes.
- Coordinate with leadership to report on billing performance, share operational insights, and support strategic decision-making.
- Support workflow distribution and coordination with offshore billing resources, ensuring clear communication and consistent processes.
- Provide responsive customer service support to physicians and practice stakeholders, addressing billing inquiries and concerns.
- Collaborate with internal teams to refine revenue cycle workflows and contribute to building standardized RCM procedures.
- Assist with data entry, invoicing, payment posting, and insurance verification as needed to support overall billing operations.
- Utilize ticketing systems such as HubSpot and Zendesk to manage, track, and resolve billing-related requests and issues.
Essential Skills
- 35 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Hands-on experience with Athenahealth for medical billing and practice management.
- Strong background in accounts receivable management, collections, and aging report review.
- Experience working with medical claims, insurance reimbursement processes, and payment posting.
- Primary care practice billing experience, supporting multiple physician practices.
- Demonstrated ability to support offshore billing teams and coordinate distributed workflows.
- Proficiency in data entry and documentation within medical billing systems.
- Experience with insurance verification and resolving claim and payment discrepancies.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain billing issues to clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
- Proven ability to manage priorities across multiple client accounts in a growing healthcare organization.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to documentation and record-keeping.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with additional practice management and EHR platforms such as eClinicalWorks, Tebra, Charm Health, and AdvancedMD.
- Familiarity with ticketing and CRM systems such as HubSpot and Zendesk for managing billing inquiries.

- Comfort working in an environment that includes both onshore and offshore billing resources.
- Interest in contributing to the build-out of an internal RCM department from the ground up.

Work Environment This role is 100% remote and follows a standard schedule of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. You will work within a national, high-growth healthcare organization that partners with independent primary care practices and is actively expanding its internal RCM department. The environment emphasizes collaboration between onshore and offshore billing teams, and you will regularly use technologies such as Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Tebra, Charm Health, AdvancedMD, and ticketing systems like HubSpot and Zendesk. The culture supports autonomy, clear communication, and continuous improvement, offering a long-term contract-to-hire path and exposure to multiple healthcare practice management platforms as the organization scales.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
