## Job Description: Engineering Manager, Data Engineering (Engagement Lead)

### About the Role
We're looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to own a strategic client engagement from start to finish. You'll be the single point of accountability for all deliverables. You'll lead a data engineering team, manage client stakeholders at every level, and make sure the work is delivered with quality, on time, and in a way that builds long-term client trust. The engagement is heavily focused on data engineering, so you need a real technical foundation. This isn't a pure project management role.
### Key Responsibilities
Engagement ownership and delivery
- Own delivery of every workstream in the engagement, including scope, timelines, quality, budget, and outcomes.
- Plan and run the engagement roadmap, turning client business goals into clear milestones and releases.
- Keep track of risks, dependencies, and issues. Escalate early and resolve them before they affect delivery.
- Set up delivery governance, including status reporting, sprint cadence, RAID logs, change control, and success metrics.
- Keep margins and resourcing healthy across the engagement.
Stakeholder management and communication
- Act as the main point of contact for client stakeholders, from engineering leads up to directors and executives.
- Lead steering committee meetings, weekly status reviews, and executive readouts with clear, concise communication.
- Manage expectations, negotiate scope changes, and handle difficult conversations professionally.
- Find opportunities to grow the account by delivering consistently and showing a clear understanding of the client's business.
Technical leadership
- Work with architects and engineers on solution design, technical trade-offs, and delivery approach.
- Review data architecture, pipeline design, and data quality practices so they hold up at scale.
- Push for engineering best practices, including CI/CD, testing, documentation, and code review.
- Bring enough technical depth to question estimates, unblock the team, and make informed decisions.
People leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional team of data engineers, analysts, and QA, both onshore and offshore.
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management for the engagement team.

Required Qualifications

- 12+ years in software or data engineering, including 4+ years managing delivery at the engagement or program level.
- A strong technical background, ideally with hands-on engineering experience earlier in your career.
- A proven record of owning end-to-end delivery for client-facing engagements, including managing multiple workstreams at once.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with confidence presenting to senior and executive stakeholders.
- Experience managing distributed or onshore/offshore teams.
- Strong command of delivery methods (Agile/Scrum, hybrid) and governance practices.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience managing data engineering, data platform, or data modernization projects.
- Familiarity with modern data stack tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Azure Data Factory, SnapLogic, or similar.
- Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and data warehousing and lakehouse concepts.
- Background in consulting or IT services, managing client accounts.
- PMP, CSM, SAFe, or similar certifications.
