What You'll Do

As an Electrical Test Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership, training, and field support across a wide range of transmission and distribution testing activities.

Technical Leadership & Training

- Assess employee technical competencies and identify development opportunities
- Design and deliver training programs for test personnel and technical teams
- Provide hands-on coaching in laboratory and field environments
- Develop training guides, procedures, and technical documentation
- Support employee progression, competency development, and succession planning
- Champion Human Performance principles and best practices

Testing & Commissioning Expertise

Lead and support testing activities involving:

- Protective relaying systems
- Power transformers
- Circuit breakers
- Reclosers
- CCVTs and RTUs
- Capacitor banks
- Voltage regulators
- MOAB switches
- Station battery systems

Perform and support:

- Relay testing and commissioning
- Power factor testing
- Contact resistance testing
- Recloser testing
- Ground grid testing
- DGA and oil sampling
- Insulation resistance (Megger) testing
- Hi-Pot testing
- TTR and carrier testing
- Soil resistivity testing
- SFRA testing
- Trip testing
- Phasing and troubleshooting activities

Field & Project Support

- Provide on-site technical oversight for substation and utility projects
- Support contractor installations and ensure adherence to technical standards
- Troubleshoot complex equipment and testing issues
- Serve as a key technical resource during outages and emergency events
- Assist with mobile substation installations and restoration efforts
- Participate in storm response activities supporting transmission and distribution systems

Data Analysis & Asset Reliability

- Analyze test data to identify trends and equipment deterioration
- Evaluate equipment condition and remaining service life
- Recommend repair, replacement, and maintenance strategies
- Develop long-term asset management recommendations
- Assist with transformer factory inspections, witness testing, and quality control reviews

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in electrical testing, power systems, transmission and distribution, or a related field
- Strong understanding of substation equipment and testing methodologies
- Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment and commissioning activities
- Proven ability to interpret test results and make sound technical recommendations
- Strong communication, leadership, and training skills
- Experience supporting field operations, outages, and emergency response activities
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and field-based teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Recognized subject matter expertise in utility testing and commissioning
- Experience working in unionized environments
- Project management experience
- Experience with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and transformer quality inspections
- Familiarity with Human Performance principles and continuous improvement practices
- Proficiency with testing, reporting, and asset analysis software

Work Environment

- This is a primarily on-site position operating on a standard schedule of 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM .
- The role offers a dynamic combination of office, laboratory, and field responsibilities, with approximately 25-30% field travel to substations and project sites.
- A company vehicle is provided for business travel.

Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Dayton, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligible for up to 20% of annual salary bonus
