- Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm
- Saturday and Sunday 3 pm to 11:30 pm
Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a Mobile Crisis Counselor to provide community-based behavioral health and substance use crisis response throughout Hampton and Newport News. This position works alongside first responders and community partners to help individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis, substance use concern, or homelessness-related emergency connect with the right level of care.
As part of the MARCUS Alert response, the Mobile Crisis Counselor provides behavioral health expertise in the field and may co-respond with law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel, medics, or other H-NNCSB crisis staff. The role combines crisis intervention, assessment, care coordination, referrals, and follow-up to help stabilize individuals and connect them with ongoing services.
Required qualifications/skills:
- Master's Degree in human services with one year of experience in a psychiatric care setting.
- Must be registered with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHP or register as a QMHP trainee within 30 days of employment.
- Pre-admission screener certification training modules must be completed within 30 days of hire.
What You'll Do
- Provide mobile crisis response and behavioral health co-response with law enforcement, fire/medic personnel, and other CSB staff throughout the community.
- Conduct mental health and substance use assessments, provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling, and connect individuals and families to appropriate treatment and community resources.
- Coordinate with the Regional Crisis Call Center, mobile crisis teams, crisis receiving center, and Emergency Services to support stabilization, treatment access, and ECO/TDO processes when needed.
- Coordinate referrals, admissions, transportation, and follow-up services to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and collaborate with counselors, case managers, peer specialists, first responders, and community partners on complex cases.
