The Family Place empowers survivors of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling, and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence.

Position Summary:

In this position as Director of Accounting, you will partner with the Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial operations to ensure The Family Place can deliver life-saving services with fiscal integrity and sustainability. You'll manage day-to-day accounting functions, supervise a team of four accounting professionals, and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting that supports strategic decision-making and maximizes organizational effectiveness. You will also oversee general ledger operations, month-end and year-end closes, balance sheet reconciliations, and GAAP compliance while maintaining strong internal controls and data integrity. Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting for all entities in compliance with GAAP standards.

- Perform general ledger and month-end close functions; conduct GAAP research as needed.

- Prepare and monitor financial reporting for internal and external use.

- Coordinate balance sheet reconciliations; review reports and ensure timely corrections with data integrity and internal controls.

Team Leadership & Supervision

- Lead, supervise, and manage revenue and expense team members (staff of four).

- Prepare performance evaluations and set goals aligned with organizational objectives.

- Provide professional development and support to build a high-performing accounting team.

Partnership with CFO

- Establish departmental goals and objectives annually.

- Coordinate internal and external audits and support filing of Form 990 tax reports.

- Assist in preparing organizational budgets and developing budget recommendations.

- Prepare thorough and accurate analyses and presentations of financial results.

Operations & Strategic Support

- Support the CFO with special projects and day-to-day operations of the accounting department.

- Lead workflow process improvements and implement accounting best practices.

- Work with stakeholders to facilitate financial understanding and promote fiscal responsibility.

- Create strong relationships and resolve financial issues across departments.

Other Duties:

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Four-year degree in accounting

- 5 years of experience performing accounting work

- 3 years supervising accounting staff members or equivalent experience

Licenses or Certifications:

- Valid Texas Driver’s License

- CPA preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles.

- Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.

- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations

- Ability to travel to attend meetings and conferences, when necessary.

- Ability to organize your own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.

- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels in the organization and the general public.

- Ability to manage and supervise staff.

- Skilled in advanced MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software.

- Skilled in conceptual, analytical, and organizational skills.

Mental and Physical Duties:

Duties are usually performed while sitting, with occasional periods of standing or walking.

Working Conditions:

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work must be performed in the agency office and is performed in an office-like setting.

Essential Personnel Designation:

Non-essential employees will follow Dallas Independent School District (DISD) closure/delay decisions and are expected to work remotely or use PTO during inclement weather. Refer to The Family Place Inclement Weather Policy for complete details.
