Tool & Die Technician Mon-Fri 7am-3pm

Shift- Mon-Fri 7am-3pm

Pay- $25/hr

Primary Responsibilities:

Safety

- Adhere to all safety procedures when handling, installing, transporting, and maintaining heavy dies and tooling.

- Properly use required personal protective equipment, lifting devices, and lockout/tagout procedures.

- Comply with company policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.

- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area through effective housekeeping and hazard-prevention practices.

- Promptly communicate unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards to the appropriate supervisor.

Tool & Die Maintenance

- Perform preventive maintenance on tooling, including cleaning, polishing, sharpening, and adjustments to maximize performance and extend service life.

- Disassemble, repair, refurbish, and reassemble worn or damaged tools and dies using appropriate hand tools, including scrapers, wire brushes, brass bars, mallets, and Allen wrenches.

- Reassemble dies by replacing bolts, stoning plates, and verifying proper fit, alignment, and function.

- Operate specialized equipment, including polishing tools, ultrasonic cleaning tanks, and extrude hone machines, to achieve required surface and performance standards.

- Troubleshoot tooling concerns and work with the tooling team to restore functionality to damaged or underperforming dies.

- Provide training and guidance to operators regarding the proper care, handling, and storage of extrusion dies.

- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Documentation & Inventory Control

- Maintain accurate records of tooling inventory, condition assessments, preventive maintenance, repairs, and maintenance history.

- Monitor tool usage and condition to proactively identify repair, refurbishment, or replacement needs.

- Clean, visually inspect, and log incoming tooling from the production floor into the preventive maintenance system.

- Document best practices and recommend improvements to tooling maintenance, storage, inspection, and repair processes.

- Ensure tooling documentation is complete, current, and readily available to appropriate departments.

Quality

- Inspect and measure extrusion dies for wear, accuracy, alignment, and surface condition using precision instruments, including micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machine equipment.

- Verify that tooling consistently produces extruded products within required tolerances and quality specifications.

- Partner with Quality Control and Production to analyze tooling-related performance and identify improvement opportunities.

- Identify conditions that may affect product quality, die performance, or production efficiency and communicate findings to the appropriate personnel.

- Confirm repaired or refurbished tooling meets established fit, function, surface, and performance requirements before returning it to service.

Continuous Improvement & Team Support

- Support continuous improvement initiatives involving tooling reliability, preventive maintenance, repair quality, and service life.

- Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, and the tooling team to investigate recurring tooling concerns and recommend corrective actions.

- Share technical knowledge and best practices with operators and team members.

- Assist in developing or updating Standard Work Instructions and tooling-maintenance documentation as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Assist with tooling trials, performance evaluations, and troubleshooting activities as needed.

- Support inventory reviews and organization of tooling, replacement components, and maintenance supplies.

- Provide backup support for related tooling and maintenance activities based on business needs.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

- Demonstrated experience in tool and die maintenance, machining, or a related technical field.

- Proficiency with hand tools, precision measurement instruments, and polishing or cleaning machinery.

- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

- Ability to inspect, diagnose, repair, and reassemble mechanical tooling components.

- Ability to read and follow maintenance instructions, safety procedures, technical documentation, and measurement requirements.

- Knowledge of extrusion processes preferred.

- Ability to maintain accurate electronic or written maintenance and inventory records.

- Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

- Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions:

- Work is performed primarily in an active manufacturing and tooling environment.

- Requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, and use of hands to operate tools, equipment, and precision measuring instruments.

- May involve handling heavy dies and tooling using approved lifting devices and material-handling equipment.

- Work environment may include moving mechanical equipment, sharp tooling surfaces, oils or cleaning materials, dust, and elevated noise levels.

- Requires consistent use of designated personal protective equipment and adherence to lockout/tagout and material-handling procedures.
