About the Project/Venue
Located in downtown Mesa, Arizona, Mesa Convention Center is the largest event venue in the East Valley. The venue features nearly 40,000 square feet of flexible meeting and exhibit space, 26 breakout rooms, 40,000 square feet of outdoor function space, and an outdoor amphitheater with capacity for up to 5,000 guests. From conferences and trade shows to community gatherings, festivals, and live entertainment, Mesa Convention Center provides a versatile setting for memorable events and experiences.
About the Role
The Operations & Conversion Supervisor plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations and event conversion functions of Mesa Convention Center. Reporting to the Operations & Conversion Manager, this position oversees part-time event and conversion staff while helping ensure the facility is prepared, maintained, and operationally ready for a wide variety of events. The Operations & Conversion Supervisor coordinates event setups, changeovers, facility operations, and staff assignments while maintaining a safe, efficient, and guest-focused environment.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & OUTCOMES)
Operations & Facility Support
- Assist with the day-to-day oversight of facility operations, including event setup and execution, building operations, custodial coordination, safety compliance, and grounds maintenance.
- Support event readiness by coordinating operational activities with internal departments, contractors, vendors, and event organizers.
- Help implement and enforce facility policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Investigate operational issues and assist in identifying and implementing effective solutions.
- Communicate event and operational requirements clearly to staff and other departments.
- Support maintenance and upkeep of the facility, equipment, and operational systems.
- Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.
Event Conversion & Setup
- Coordinate and supervise event setups, breakdowns, room flips, changeovers, and equipment movements.
- Ensure all equipment, materials, and resources are available and staged to support efficient event operations.
- Load, unload, transport, and store equipment and supplies according to event requirements.
- Operate and oversee the safe use of equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, riding scrubbers, and related operational equipment.
- Execute event setups and changeovers using event documents, diagrams, floor plans, and instructions.
- Assist with the installation and removal of seating platforms, risers, staging, and other event infrastructure.
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure equipment is properly secure and maintained.
WHAT YOU BRING (QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE)
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's or bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Event Management, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in facility operations, event operations, convention centers, arenas, stadiums, theaters, or similar venues.
- Previous experience leading or supervising part-time staff preferred.
- Experience with event setups, changeovers, and facility operations is strongly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to lead staff and work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of event operations equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, staging systems, and basic hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and facility safety practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & TRAVEL
- This role is based on site in Mesa, AZ
- You may be required to work a non traditional schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
