Multi-Skilled Technician - Building Mechanical Operations

What this job involves:

As a Multi-Skilled Technician focused on Building Mechanical Operations, you'll be at the heart of maintaining critical building systems that keep our clients' facilities running smoothly and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you'll perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and respond to service requests across HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems. What your day-to-day will look like:

- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handling units, pumps, and associated mechanical equipment
- Respond promptly to building system alarms, equipment failures, and occupant comfort complaints to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions
- Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems to identify potential problems before they impact building operations or occupant comfort
- Document all maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment readings in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) with accuracy and detail
- Collaborate with external contractors and vendors during repairs, installations, and system upgrades to ensure work meets specifications and quality standards
- Monitor building automation systems (BAS) to optimize equipment performance, adjust setpoints, and identify operational inefficiencies
- Maintain accurate inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and supplies needed for routine maintenance and emergency repairs
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours emergency response support for critical building system issues
- Support energy conservation initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve system efficiency and reduce operational costs

Required qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED with completion of a technical or vocational training program in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience maintaining commercial building mechanical systems in a facilities maintenance environment
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handlers, pumps, cooling towers, and building automation controls
- Valid stationary engineer, HVAC technician, or equivalent trade license as required by local jurisdiction
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Basic computer skills including proficiency with CMMS software, email, and building automation system interfaces
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities with capacity to work independently and make sound technical decisions
- Physical capability to perform maintenance tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, working from ladders, and accessing confined spaces

Preferred qualifications:

- EPA Universal certification for refrigerant handling (Type I, II, III, and Universal)
- Experience with specific building automation platforms such as Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Honeywell systems
- Additional certifications in specialized areas such as boiler operation, water treatment, or energy management
- Familiarity with plumbing systems, electrical systems, and general building trades to provide multi-skilled technical support
- Previous experience working in corporate office buildings, life sciences facilities, data centers, or other mission-critical environments
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through ongoing technical training and professional development
