Electronic Technician

Work Model: This is a fully onsite role, with work performed at your designated Regal Rexnord office.

Electronics Technician III conducts product, component, performance, application, and reliability testing in an electronics laboratory environment to validate that designs meet engineering, regulatory, and customer requirements. This role is responsible for safely setting up and executing tests, collecting and analyzing accurate data, and documenting results that are reliable, repeatable, and actionable.  The successful candidate will collaborate with product development teams to support new product development and continuous improvement efforts by identifying performance concerns, documenting observations, and recommending potential design improvements based on test results. The role also supports the development, assembly, modification, troubleshooting, and validation of electronic circuits, printed circuit boards (PCBs), laboratory instrumentation, and automated test systems used for product evaluation and application development activities.

Major Responsibilities

- Set up and execute product performance, application, reliability, and validation tests while following all applicable safety procedures and laboratory standards.
- Conduct testing and accurately record data in accordance with engineering requests, test plans, and established procedures.
- Perform energy efficiency, performance, and safety agency testing in compliance with applicable standards and certification requirements.
- Support environmental and reliability testing activities, including Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), where applicable.
- Monitor test progress, troubleshoot test setups, and communicate observations, failures, and anomalies to the product development team.
- Identify and recommend potential product or process improvements based on testing observations and data analysis.
- Build, modify, troubleshoot, and repair electronic circuit boards, prototypes, and test fixtures to support product development, validation, and laboratory testing activities.
- Perform through-hole and surface-mount soldering, component replacement, rework, wiring modifications, and prototype assembly in accordance with engineering specifications and industry workmanship standards.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and printed circuit board (PCB) documentation to support test setup, troubleshooting, and product evaluation activities.
- Support circuit board layout and application development activities by assisting engineers with PCB design reviews, prototype evaluations, component verification, and design validation testing.
- Diagnose electronic hardware failures to the component level and recommend corrective actions based on test results, measurements, and root cause analysis.
- Assemble, configure, and validate electronic test equipment, control systems, data acquisition hardware, and custom laboratory instrumentation.
- Maintain required electrical, laboratory, and safety certifications needed to perform assigned tests.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of testing materials, lubricants, fluids, and other laboratory consumables in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of laboratory procedures, work instructions, and job safety documentation.
- Train and mentor new laboratory technicians in standard test setup, operation, safety practices, soldering techniques, electronic troubleshooting, and data collection procedures.
- Assist with laboratory equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare test summaries, reports, and presentations that clearly communicate test methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess the technical capability to set up and execute mechanical and electrical performance, application, and reliability tests used to validate new designs and optimize existing products. This individual must be highly safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and capable of working effectively in a laboratory and team environment. The candidate should also possess hands-on experience assembling, modifying, troubleshooting, and testing electronic circuits, circuit boards, and associated instrumentation.

- Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience conducting electrical, electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical product testing.
- Strong commitment to laboratory and workplace safety practices.
- Experience using electrical measurement, instrumentation, data acquisition, and monitoring equipment.
- Experience assembling, modifying, and troubleshooting electronic circuits, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency with through-hole and surface-mount soldering, component replacement, rework, and prototype assembly techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and printed circuit board layouts.
- Ability to read, understand, and execute written test procedures and engineering instructions.
- Strong technical problem-solving and electronic troubleshooting skills using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power analyzers, and related diagnostic equipment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tests and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a laboratory and product development team.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience conducting reliability and environmental testing, including HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing) and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening) methodologies.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and automated testing equipment.
- Proficiency with MATLAB for data analysis, scripting, test automation, modeling, development of custom laboratory tools, data visualization, and report generation.
- Experience designing, modifying, or supporting printed circuit board (PCB) layouts using electronic CAD software.
- Familiarity with PCB design and schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, Eagle, or equivalent circuit board layout applications.
- Experience building, debugging, and validating prototype electronic assemblies, circuit boards, and custom test fixtures.
- Experience performing component-level failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action development on electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with embedded electronics, sensors, microcontrollers, data acquisition systems, and laboratory control systems.
- Familiarity with safety agency standards, certification testing, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting new product development, product validation, and application engineering activities.
