Brain-related illness is one of the last great frontiers in medicine, not because the brain is unknowable, but because it has been inaccessible. Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possible resolution: the individual neuron. AI algorithms then decode this massive amount of brain-data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments. 
 
Our first clinical application, the Connexus® BCI, will help people who are unable to speak, due to ALS, spinal cord injuries and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices. However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application. With the brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology to transform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits to untreatable mental illness.
 
The Role

Paradromics is looking for an Equipment Engineer to join our Operations team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the equipment that supports our operations, with a focus on minimizing downtime, supporting equipment installation, and developing robust preventative maintenance programs.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, solving problems quickly, and working across disciplines. We are intentionally looking for someone with broad technical experience and a strong appetite to learn rather than requiring expertise in a specific type of equipment. The right person will bring strong mechanical engineering and electrical systems fundamentals, a bias toward action, and the ability to take ownership of equipment challenges from diagnosis through resolution.
 
Responsibilities

- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex equipment and tools to minimize operational downtime.
- Support the installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of new equipment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventative maintenance (PM) programs and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and maintainability.
- Debug and resolve equipment issues using a structured, hands-on approach.
- Work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other teams to resolve equipment and process challenges.
- Support equipment qualification and documentation activities within a quality system.
- Establish maintenance procedures, schedules, and documentation for new and existing equipment.
- Take ownership of urgent equipment issues and drive them through resolution.
- Learn and support a broad range of equipment and technical disciplines as the organization grows.
 
Required Education

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on engineering experience.
 
Required Qualifications

- Strong mechanical engineering and electrical system fundamentals with hands-on technical experience.
- Experience debugging, building, maintaining, or repairing large, complex, or highly technical equipment or tools.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems and identify root causes.
- Strong cross-disciplinary curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and technical domains.
- Bias toward action and a hands-on approach to solving problems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to take ownership of equipment issues and drive them through resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with equipment such as EDMs, vacuum systems, automated assembly equipment, or other complex manufacturing tools.
- Experience working within a regulated or quality-controlled environment.
- Familiarity with equipment qualification and validation processes, including IQ/OQ/PQ/PPQ.
- Experience developing or managing preventative maintenance programs and documentation.
- Facilities engineering experience.
- Experience installing, commissioning, or qualifying new manufacturing equipment.
