Class A CDL Truck Driver (52-Foot Trailer)

Description

The Class A CDL Truck Driver safely operates an 18-wheeler with a 52-foot trailer to transport Spectra products and materials between company locations, customers, and other assigned destinations. This position is responsible for safe and timely deliveries, vehicle inspections, load security, accurate documentation, and compliance with Department of Transportation requirements and company policies. The driver works closely with transportation, warehouse, branch, and customer teams to support reliable daily operations.

Responsibilities

- Safely operate a Class A tractor-trailer, including an 18-wheeler with a 52-foot trailer, on assigned routes.
- Transport aluminum rainware, building materials, equipment, and other authorized freight safely and on schedule.
- Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections; report defects or safety concerns immediately.
- Verify freight, shipping documents, delivery instructions, and load counts before departure and at delivery.
- Inspect load placement and secure cargo using approved methods to prevent shifting, loss, or damage.
- Follow all DOT, FMCSA, state, local, and company safety requirements, including hours-of-service rules.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs, mileage records, fuel receipts, bills of lading, proof of delivery, and inspection records.
- Use GPS, electronic logging devices, mobile applications, and company communication tools as required.
- Communicate delays, route changes, accidents, cargo concerns, equipment problems, or delivery issues promptly.
- Provide professional service when interacting with customers, branch employees, vendors, and the public.
- Assist with loading, unloading, trailer movement, and basic warehouse support when assigned and properly trained.
- Keep the tractor and trailer clean, organized, secure, and ready for safe operation.

Requirements

- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License in good standing.
- Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and ability to maintain required driver qualifications.
- Recent tractor-trailer driving experience; experience with 52-foot or 53-foot trailers is strongly preferred.
- Driving record that meets company and insurance requirements.
- Knowledge of DOT safety rules, hours-of-service requirements, vehicle inspections, and cargo securement.
- Ability to safely maneuver, back, dock, and park a full-size tractor-trailer in varied locations.
- Ability to read delivery documents, follow written and verbal instructions, and maintain accurate records.
- Reliable attendance, sound judgment, and professional communication.
- Ability to pass all required background, motor vehicle record, drug, physical, and company approval processes.
- Must meet all federal, state, and company eligibility requirements for assigned routes and equipment.
- Experience delivering building materials, aluminum products, or similar freight.
- Experience with local, regional, multi-stop, warehouse, distribution, or yard operations.
- Experience using electronic logging devices, route technology, and proof-of-delivery systems.
- Forklift, pallet jack, or material-handling experience, when required by the assigned location.
- Sit and drive for extended periods and remain alert throughout the assigned route.
- Frequently enter and exit the tractor cab and trailer using steps and handholds.
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements during inspections and deliveries.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work indoors and outdoors in changing weather, traffic, warehouse, dock, and customer-site conditions.
