Controls Engineer (Facilities & Utilities)

Ready to work on the systems that keep a pharmaceutical facility running? We're looking for an Automation Controls Engineer to support critical facility, utility, and environmental control systems within a highly regulated manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role supporting everything from cleanroom HVAC and Building Management Systems (BMS) to purified water, clean steam, and environmental monitoring systems.
### What You'll Do
Support and troubleshoot BMS, EMS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems Ensure reliable operation of cleanroom HVAC, pressure, temperature, and humidity control systems Maintain and optimize critical utility systems including purified water, WFI, clean steam, compressed air, process gases, and chilled water Respond to alarms, investigate system issues, and drive root cause analysis Support control system upgrades, change controls, and validation activities Configure alarms, trends, graphics, databases, and monitoring systems Troubleshoot field instrumentation, sensors, valves, VFDs, networks, and control loops Partner with Facilities, Maintenance, Quality, Validation, and Engineering teams on system improvements Participate in commissioning, qualification, and reliability improvement projects Help ensure systems remain compliant, validated, and inspection-ready
### What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field 5+ years of experience in controls, automation, facilities, utilities, or building systems Hands-on experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and/or Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) Strong PLC, HMI, and SCADA troubleshooting experience Experience supporting HVAC controls, cleanrooms, or critical utility systems Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control schematics Comfortable working in manufacturing facilities, utility areas, and cleanroom environments
### Preferred Experience
Pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, semiconductor, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), and Clean Steam systems GMP and FDA-regulated environments Commissioning, qualification, and validation activities OT cybersecurity and industrial networking Environmental Monitoring Systems and cleanroom operations Sterile manufacturing or aseptic processing environments Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Sacramento, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $135000.00 - $160000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
