Standard Job Description

MRB is the inspection representative for the Materials Review Board (MRB). Working in a fast‑paced aerospace shop environment, the incumbent prepares the MRB work agenda, coordinates the review of rejected parts, materials, and assemblies, and makes recommendations for final disposition.

* Technical Knowledge:
* Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and repair manuals.
* Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (CMM, micrometers, calipers, gauges).
* Familiarity with machining tools and methods, metal processes, sheet‑metal and composite fabrication, and aircraft‑specific materials.
* Physical Demands: Ability to lift/handle average‑weight parts, pull items from racks, and stand for extended periods.
* Safety Awareness: Knowledge of EHS regulations and a commitment to safe work practices.
* Act as the inspection representative for the Materials Review Board (MRB).
* Prepare the MRB work agenda and coordinate review of rejected parts, materials, and assemblies.
* Follow standard inspection procedures and quality‑control standards to evaluate the feasibility of salvaging rejected items.
* Serve on the MRB crib, rendering judgments on reliability of salvage and recommended repairs.
* Work from engineering drawings and specifications to verify the correctness of repairs and rejection reports for machines, sheet‑metal, plastic parts, and assemblies.
* Expedite disposition of items based on shop priority.
* Evaluate and consult with MRB members, using precedent and the manual of standard repairs to determine salvage options.
* Direct and instruct level‑grade inspectors; provide on‑site training to supplier or partner inspectors when required.
* Report work progress and any conditions that prevent meeting quantity or quality standards to supervision.
* Coordinate with other team members on NMRR/MRB activities and with the Daily Review Team to ensure corrective actions are documented.
* Use computer systems to log, track, and monitor MRB reports and part dispositions.
* Support CURE‑Team activities.
* Create work‑order operations as needed; initiate holds on “Carry Forward” disposition work orders.
* Communicate needed report amendments to off‑shift inspectors.
* Pull parts for engineering review and ensure proper documentation/handling of scrap material.
* Coordinate with engineering to determine if scrap can be repurposed as test pieces.
* Work closely with purchasing and shop supervision on repeated vendor or production rejections; help determine root causes to reduce future rejections.
* Liaise with engineering and military quality‑control personnel.
* Prepare reports on scrap and recurring discrepancies for MRB files and disposition.
* Perform other related duties as directed by supervision.
* Contribute to equipment effectiveness by performing operator‑required upkeep.
* Refer unusual conditions to supervision.
* Follow all environmental health and safety (EHS) rules and regulations.
* Segregate waste material and maintain good housekeeping practices.

Basic Qualifications

* High school diploma (or GED) plus 4 years of formal training in an aircraft‑fabrication trade (e.g., aerospace manufacturing, precision machining).
* Current inspection certification(s) required by inspection management (e.g., FAA‑approved inspector, AS9100/AS9110 auditor).
* Up to 5 years inspecting, analyzing, and dispositioning non‑conforming aerospace parts, preferably in an MRB environment.

* Excellent written and verbal communication for clear reporting and effective coordination with engineering, quality, purchasing, and vendors.
* Leadership ability to direct junior inspectors and provide training to external inspectors.
* Proficiency with MRB tracking systems, inventory databases, and standard office software (e.g., MS Office, ERP).
* Collaborative mindset for working with Daily Review Team, CURE Team, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
* Keen attention to detail for tolerance checks, material quality verification, and drawing compliance.
* Proactive initiative to identify recurring discrepancies, initiate corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
* Safety‑first attitude, recognizing and escalating unsafe conditions to protect airworthiness and personnel.

Pay Information

* $49.36 - $52.14
