Sunrise Transportation is seeking an experienced Service Manager to join our Crestwood team.

The Service Manager is responsible for building and leading a high-performing maintenance team while fostering a workplace culture centered on safety, quality, accountability, and trust. This position works closely with the Operations Team to maintain a reliable, safe, and high-performing fleet that supports our drivers, students, and communities.

The ideal candidate is an experienced automotive or heavy-equipment professional who can effectively manage people, workflow, maintenance operations, costs, and overall fleet readiness.

Responsibilities

- Organize, prioritize, and manage daily service workflow and shop throughput.

- Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

- Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, cost-control strategies, and maintenance planning.

- Maintain a strong focus on completing repairs correctly the first time while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

- Train, coach, and lead technicians in diagnostic procedures, maintenance, and repairs.

- Utilize fleet management software to manage repair orders and track completed repairs and scheduled maintenance.

- Coordinate and manage IDOT safety inspection schedules.

- Maintain parts inventory and oversee ordering of parts, tires, fluids, and other shop supplies.

- Coordinate with outside vendors to ensure outsourced repairs are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

- Manage employee schedules, shift coverage, and timecard administration.

- Ensure maintenance facilities remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.

- Work alongside technicians as needed to assist with diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs.

- Partner with Operations to ensure vehicles are available, reliable, and prepared to safely transport students.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the automotive, heavy-equipment, fleet maintenance, or a related industry; or

- Minimum of 5 years of related experience with an associate degree.

- 1–3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.

- Professional technician experience working with gasoline and/or diesel engines required.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- ASE certifications preferred.

- Knowledge of DOT rules, regulations, and vehicle safety requirements.

- Valid driver's license required.

- CDL is not required but is considered a plus.

- Proficiency with computers, email, fleet management systems, and basic administrative software.

- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to successfully complete required drug testing.

Physical Requirements

- Must be able to work flexible schedules or shifts as operational needs require.

- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate equipment, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively.

- Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

- Must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

- Must be comfortable working in environments that may include extreme heat, cold, moisture, and moderate noise.

- May be exposed to water, fumes, oils, chemicals, and other materials commonly found in a vehicle maintenance facility.

Education

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

- Automotive, diesel, heavy-equipment, or fleet maintenance experience required.

- Previous leadership or management experience preferred.

License/Certification

- Valid Driver's License required.

- CDL preferred but not required.
