The Senior Legal Counsel, Compliance will instrumental in managing legal and compliance risks while building and leading the compliance program’s priorities and initiatives for the North America region, North America HQ and Samsung Electronics America, Inc.  The Head of Compliance will be responsible for developing, planning, monitoring and reporting on the corporate compliance program for SEA and its NA subsidiaries.  This role is fundamental to ensuring that SEA and its NA subsidiaries maintain a culture that is legally compliant and ethical, in accordance with Samsung's global principles.

This role will be based in New York, NY, and may require travel to other Samsung offices in North America which consists of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Partner closely with Samsung North America businesses to identify compliance risks, gaps and design and develop tools and framework to drive compliance within the business
- Provide strategic compliance advise on business initiatives and work in close collaboration with Legal department and other key functions as needed to resolve complex compliance matters and support decision making
- Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies, procedures and training in accordance with Company’s compliance strategies and priorities, applicable laws, regulations and industry codes.
- Lead the compliance training program, coordinating onboarding and annual refresher training, conducting training sessions and maintaining the annual compliance training plan for compliance policies
- Conduct compliance audits, lead remediation efforts, an collaborate with compliance colleagues to ensure consistent application of policies and best practices.
- Partner with Samsung’s Korea Headquarters (HQ) compliance teams to support the rollout of local compliance initiatives and assist with special compliance projects as needed.
- Lead or support internal compliance investigations as needed

Required Skills:

- A Juris Doctor is required.
- Licensed to practice law in good standing
- At least 10-15 years of progressive professional experience in legal and compliance preferably in a technology and/or consumer products industry
- Experience creating and effectuating corporate compliance programs and procedures and implementing compliance training programs strongly preferred.
- Experience in the design and implementation of compliance focused management information reports and the design and collection of compliance metrics strongly preferred
- Knowledge and legal experience with government procurement laws and regulations strongly preferred.
- Understanding of Compliance-related laws and regulations, e.g. OFAC/Trade Sanctions; data privacy / data protection; conflicts of interest; fair competition is preferred
- Experience in conducting investigations is preferred
- Compliance risk assessment, risk management or audit experience a plus
- Excellent leadership and collaborative skills

EDUCATION:

- A Juris Doctor
- At least 10-15 years of legal experience in corporate compliance and ethics programs experience CPA, CIA, CFE, or CCEP certification preferred

Skills and Qualifications

The salary range for this role is expected to be between $300,000 and $365,000.  Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
