This is a hybrid position. Candidates are expected in-office Twice a Month
This is an entry-level underwriting role, typically suited for a college hire, trainee, or graduate scheme participant. Under the direct supervision of your manager, you will support the underwriting and management of treaties across LMRe US Standard/ Specialty Casualty and/or US Property segments through the following:
- Develop foundational underwriting skills, build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and gain familiarity with GRS/LMRe’s business plan, underwriting guidelines, associated processes and procedures
- Secure strong familiarity with all US underwriting/actuarial/claims systems, Salesforce, Data warehouses, Power BI tools, etc. to provide teamwide support across such.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive portfolio monitoring tools and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) across property and casualty lines. This includes using available internal and external data/analytics to assist underwriting teams to optimize the portfolios and establish a regular cadence with them to assess trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide comprehensive support for addressing and detailing internal portfolio-related queries that underwriting managers receive from various internal departments (OOU, GRS product leaders, etc.), including tasks such as quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and ad hoc requests.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment & Underwriting Support
- Under direct supervision, assist in assessing treaty risks by providing supporting information on recommendations for underwriting decisions across US Standard/Specialty Casualty and/or US Property lines of business.
- Support senior underwriters in preparing pricing analyses, risk assessments, and underwriting documentation for internal approvals.
- Begin developing familiarity with primary operations, product exposures, and treaty structures to build foundational underwriting judgment.
Underwriting Process Management
- Learn and adhere to internal underwriting processes, systems, and tools (e.g., Salesforce, PowerBI, ARMMS underwriting system).
- Assist in maintaining accurate pipeline and portfolio data; support compliance with underwriting authorities and controls.
- Support documentation of underwriting decisions and timely processing of renewals under senior guidance.
Market & Data Awareness
- Begin developing awareness of market trends, competitor positioning, pricing dynamics, and policy language across US LOB lines.
- Support data analysis tasks and assist in translating information into actionable insights, including leveraging GenAI tools as directed.
- Familiarization with internal reporting suite/KPI requirements and provide on-going support as well as enhancement to such.
- Access relevant external data sources to increase market intelligence
Relationship Building
- Begin building relationships with key external parties, including brokers and cedants, under manager supervision.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and partners including UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, and Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America.
- Attend client/broker meetings and industry events to develop external market awareness (travel as required).
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support cross-functional coordination efforts with claims, actuarial, finance, legal, and operations teams.
- Actively participate in all Account Huddles and renewal discussions.
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, actuarial science, risk management, or related field.
- 0–2 years of experience; prior internship or exposure to insurance, reinsurance, or financial services is a plus.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a curiosity and eagerness to learn underwriting fundamentals.
- Strong initiative and confidence take ownership of necessary tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization and attention to detail.
- May be undertaking or willing to pursue a professional Underwriting qualification.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
