Senior Test Engineer

Yotta Energy is looking for a Senior Test Engineer to lead test and validation for firmware and embedded systems that power our distributed solar + storage products. You will own the test strategy end to end: designing firmware validation and regression test cases, building and maintaining automated test scripts in Visual Studio Code, and guiding a small team of test engineers and technicians.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will write code and run tests alongside your team, manage test work in Jira, and partner closely with firmware, hardware, and product teams to make sure every release ships with confidence.
## Key Responsibilities

Test Automation

- Build and maintain Python/pytest test scripts and frameworks in Visual Studio Code that drive devices over serial, CAN, Modbus, Ethernet, and wireless interfaces.
- Integrate test suites into CI/CD so they run on every firmware build, managed in Git with peer code reviews.

Firmware Validation & Regression

- Turn requirements and firmware specs into traceable test plans covering functional, boundary, stress, power-cycling, and fault-injection cases.
- Validate OTA updates, bootloaders, communication protocols, battery and power-management behavior, and safety features.
- Build and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) benches and run environmental and inverter system-level testing on the Yotta Block.
- Own the regression strategy (smoke, sanity, full), run cycles for every release candidate, and separate real defects from test or environment issues.

Team Leadership

- Lead and mentor test engineers and technicians, set priorities, and support hiring and onboarding.
- Set test standards and coding guidelines, and own lab organization, safety, 5S practices, and test fixtures.
- Represent test in sprint planning, design reviews, and release go/no-go decisions.

Test Management & Collaboration

- Manage the test backlog, sprints, and defect workflow in Jira, with traceability in Jama or TestRail and dashboards on release readiness.
- Work with firmware, hardware, and field engineering to root-cause issues, including those reported from deployed sites.
- Support certification testing (UL 9540, UL 1741, UL 1973, IEEE 1547) and document procedures and results in Confluence.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years in test or validation engineering, including 4+ years on embedded firmware and 2+ years leading or mentoring test engineers.
- Strong Python skills and daily comfort in Visual Studio Code, plus Git and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
- Proven track record designing firmware validation test cases and running structured regression programs.
- Hands-on experience with embedded interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Modbus, or TCP/IP) and lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, solar array simulators, and temperature chambers.
- Advanced Jira skills and clear written communication for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

- Background in solar PV, energy storage, BMS, inverters, or power electronics, including standards such as UL 9540, UL 1741, UL 1973, and IEEE 1547.
- Experience building HIL test systems or using LabVIEW for instrument control.
- Working knowledge of C/C++ for reading and debugging firmware source.
- Experience with Jama or TestRail, IoT devices, or OTA update validation.

Physical Requirements

- Lift, move, push, and pull 30-50 lb frequently (over 50 lb occasionally, with assistance).
- Stand and walk for long periods; occasionally kneel, squat, climb, and work at heights.
- Work outdoors in adverse weather, including hot and cold temperatures.
