Controls & Network Integration Engineer, IT Infrastructure Engineering

The IT Manufacturing Solutions Engineering team identifies and deploys cutting-edge technologies that deliver step-change performance in Tesla’s factories. We eliminate inefficiencies and waste while enabling robust, high-volume production of vehicles, energy products, battery cells, and more.

As a Controls and Network Integration Engineer, you will accelerate the global migration of our AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles), AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots), and EMS (Electrical Monorail System) fleets to the latest wireless technologies—especially Private 5G—delivering low-latency, highly reliable communications. Your work will directly increase factory output and uptime by making mobile robotics systems rock-solid. You will own the critical intersection of IT infrastructure, OT/controls, and wireless networking in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

- Own end-to-end IT/OT network topologies that connect infrastructure to line-side controls equipment, optimizing for real-time automation, robustness, reliability, and performance
- Rapidly troubleshoot and resolve Private 5G cellular, Wi-Fi, and industrial network issues affecting production using Wireshark packet analysis, Splunk, SQL, PRONETA, TIA Portal Topology, and internal visibility tools
- Bridge IT and OT: navigate controls documentation, PLC programming, and electrical systems while partnering with Manufacturing, Cellular, and Network Infrastructure teams to drive root-cause resolution and clear cross-domain knowledge gaps
- Test, qualify, and integrate new 5G cellular devices, controls networking hardware, and related equipment for factory compatibility and performance
- Partner daily with Manufacturing teams across Design-Build-Run phases to ensure smooth, successful integrations that align with production realities
- Lead multi-project Private 5G cellular and wireless integrations: coordinate cross-functional teams, manage device sourcing/shipping, and participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), and SOP (Start of Operation) to hit deadlines with zero unplanned downtime
- Collaborate on secure, scalable data pipelines from PLCs and industrial computers to internal monitoring services, delivering real-time high-visibility insights
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing performance data, optimizing Wi-Fi device behavior (low latency, minimal packet loss, zero disconnections), and proposing upgrades that boost 5G functionality and overall factory efficiency
- Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders, speaking fluently across manufacturing, wireless, wired, and cellular domains to tailor solutions and align on production needs
- Ensure knowledge base and project tracking tools are up to date so the whole team remains ready to support any escalations

- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), Mechatronics, Robotics, Networking, Telecommunications, or related field, plus 3+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent practical experience; 5+ years preferred for Senior level)
- Advanced proficiency in network troubleshooting tools including Wireshark, PRONETA, TIA Portal Topology, and Windows Command Prompt
- Hands-on experience with Siemens TIA Portal, OPC-UA, and Ignition; ability to program Siemens PLCs, configure Siemens NAT and LACP/XC (Scalance) switches
- Strong understanding of industrial and networking protocols: TCP/IP, PROFINET/PROFIsafe, EtherCAT
- Advanced knowledge of electrical diagrams with ability to redline ECAD schematics (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Jython, or Ignition Expression Language)
- Exceptional attention to detail, rigorous regression/integration testing practices, and outstanding problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with proven experience on cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders
- Comfort and effectiveness working in active manufacturing/factory environments, including direct partnership with production teams
