The Manufacturing Engineer defines, develops, implements, and sustains safe and cost-effective manufacturing equipment, processes, methods, fixtures, and tooling using sound engineering and project management principles. This role focuses on aligning manufacturing solutions with customer requirements, product specifications, and quality standards while driving continuous improvement across equipment, machinery, and departmental initiatives. The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to enhance safety, manufacturability, product quality, and operational efficiency in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Define, research, develop, justify, implement, and sustain safe, cost-effective manufacturing equipment, processes, methods, fixtures, and tooling aligned with customer requirements, product specifications, and quality standards.
- Contribute to the design, modification, and implementation of new or updated equipment, machinery, continuous improvement projects, and departmental initiatives.
- Provide clear recommendations on safety, manufacturability, and product quality to support operational and engineering decisions.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, respond promptly to inquiries, and meet project deadlines as scheduled.
- Lead and support small projects, interfacing with Operations, Product Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Warehouse personnel during development, implementation, and follow-up phases.
- Help develop, document, specify, and justify new machinery, equipment, tooling, and automation equipment specifications.
- Analyze team member requests for changes in methods of manufacture to improve safety, quality, delivery, costs, and utilization of existing equipment.
- Recommend and develop manufacturing and logistics methodologies that reduce waste, shorten cycle times, and increase product quality, thereby improving value to customers.
- Champion the creation and modification of work instructions in assigned areas to ensure others in the organization can perform their work consistently and effectively.
- Perform analyses focused on ergonomics, cost reductions, quality improvements, and efficiency gains in manufacturing processes.
- Gather data and assist in root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of manufacturing issues as required.
- Conduct time studies and create standards to support accurate planning, scheduling, and performance measurement.
- Modify existing routings and create new routings to reflect process changes and improvements.
- Support the Safety Committee as needed by providing technical input and participating in safety-related initiatives.
- Maintain AutoCAD drawings of the facility, processes, and equipment with proper revision control to ensure accurate documentation.
- Maintain and improve general equipment and machinery specifications to support reliability and performance.
- Modify and create new tool drawings and maintain the tooling log to ensure accurate tracking of tooling assets.
- Support Maintenance as a technical resource, providing engineering insight and guidance for equipment and process issues.
Essential Skills
- Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods, including flow, layouts, assembly, machining, and tooling.
- Knowledge of manufacturing engineering, process engineering, and process improvement principles.
- Experience or familiarity with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- High level of computer literacy, including proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach to developing new ideas and solutions.
- Quality-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong work ethic and ability to contribute effectively as a team member.
- High level of motivation and self-starting attitude.
- Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- 03 years of related work experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Distribution & Logistics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams such as Operations, Product Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Warehouse.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and methodologies.
- Understanding of logistics and material flow within manufacturing environments.
- Experience creating and maintaining work instructions, routings, and standards.
- Ability to perform time studies and ergonomic assessments.
- Experience with tooling design and maintaining tooling documentation.
- Interest in and aptitude for continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
- Comfort working with both office-based tools and shop-floor equipment in an industrial setting.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in an industrial manufacturing facility with an associated office environment. The Manufacturing Engineer works regularly on the production floor around machinery, equipment, and tooling, as well as in an office setting for design work, documentation, and analysis. AutoCAD and MS Office applications are used extensively for drawings, specifications, data analysis, and reporting. This is a Permanent position based out of Oxford, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. 401K plan
