Postdoctoral Scientist - Functional Genomics

As a Postdoctoral Scientist in Functional Genomics at Bayer Crop Science R&D, you will play a pivotal role in advancing functional genomics and high-throughput screening initiatives that directly fuel pipeline innovation in agricultural science. Working closely with a multidisciplinary research team, you will serve as a technical expert responsible for the design and optimization of custom, fit-for-purpose assays across a variety of models and cell types. Your contributions will provide critical insights that support decision-making and problem-solving, helping to shape the future of crop science research.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and optimize functional screens with custom readouts;

• Design and establish fit-for-purpose assays (e.g., viability, proliferation, signaling) to assess phenotypic changes after perturbation screens;

• Conduct data analyses and design-controlled experiments in collaboration with cross-functional partners, coordinating their implementation to enable project success;

• Understand and anticipate broader project and team interests, identifying, proposing, and performing complementary analyses to enrich insights from multiple modalities and data layers;

• Conduct complex activities that require specialized knowledge and the broad application of scientific principles;

• Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and professional interest;

• Maintain detailed record-keeping and required documentation;

• Demonstrate commitment to inclusion and safety, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, biological/biomedical sciences, genetics/genomics, or a similar field;

• Experience with high-throughput cell-based assays and data analysis;

• Ability to maintain cell culture and screen complex cell models, including insect or plant cell cultures;

• Experience with stable cell line development and maintenance;

• Familiarity with innovative or emerging fields of study.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with CRISPR or related screening technologies;

• Hands-on experience with library cloning, library generation, and QC with agricultural specimens;

• Experience with the development of custom fit-for-purpose assays with multimodal readouts;

• Experience collaborating across multiple teams, fostering a team-based approach to research, and leveraging partnerships;

• Experience clearly communicating project plans and experimental results with partners and stakeholders, maintaining alignment on objectives and priorities.

Compensation and Benefits

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $78,600 – $118,000 per year. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
