About this role

Job Title: Rotating Equipment Engineer Job Description
The Rotating Equipment Engineer specifies, selects, and supports complex rotating machinery for LNG and power projects, with a strong focus on field engineering during construction, commissioning, and startup. This role combines detailed mechanical engineering design with hands-on involvement in installation, testing, troubleshooting, and early operations, ensuring equipment performance, reliability, and compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Specify and select rotating equipment including reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, cryogenic pumps, drivers such as electric motors and gas turbines, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Develop and review detailed equipment datasheets, performance curves, vendor proposals, and technical evaluations to ensure optimal equipment selection and configuration.
- Perform rotor dynamics checks, vibration assessments, and basic speed and torque calculations, and coordinate more detailed analyses with specialist vendors when required.
- Define alignment, foundation, and coupling requirements for rotating equipment and coordinate these needs with civil and structural engineering teams.
- Manage technical clarifications with vendors, review and comment on vendor drawings, and approve test procedures and factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) reports.
- Provide commissioning and startup support in the field, troubleshooting mechanical issues on rotating equipment during construction and initial operation.
- Support initial operations and maintenance activities during the project warranty period, helping to resolve issues and optimize equipment performance.
- Contribute to maintenance strategy development, reliability-focused design decisions, and the preparation of recommended spare parts lists.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, API standards, and client-specific requirements throughout design, procurement, installation, and testing.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, including controls, civil, structural, and operations personnel, to integrate rotating equipment into overall plant systems.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve technical issues and document decisions.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong emphasis on actively engineering and supporting field activities during construction, commissioning, and startup.
- Prior experience serving as lead engineer on LNG and power projects.
- Demonstrated experience specifying and working with reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, cryogenic pumps, and associated drivers and auxiliaries.
- Hands-on commissioning and startup experience on rotating equipment in industrial environments.
- Experience with compressor controls and turbomachinery monitoring systems.
- Solid understanding of API 610, API 617, API 618, and other relevant rotating equipment standards.
- Familiarity with rotor dynamics principles, vibration monitoring techniques, and practical alignment practices.
- Experience with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) string test requirements, including witnessing and evaluating string tests.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and reports.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in rotating equipment engineering for LNG facilities and power generation projects.
- Experience working with cryogenic systems and equipment in LNG or related applications.
- Applied knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in the design, selection, and maintenance of rotating machinery.
- Familiarity with API standards beyond those explicitly listed, as they apply to rotating equipment and related systems.
- Interest in contributing to long-term maintenance strategies and reliability-centered design.
- Motivation to grow professionally through exposure to complex projects and advanced rotating equipment technologies.
Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based with a standard 40-hour work week, focused on engineering design, vendor coordination, and project support activities. The engineer also interfaces regularly with field teams during construction, commissioning, and startup, which may involve visits to industrial sites such as LNG and power facilities.
