Concrete Project Manager

Job Title: Concrete Project Manager / Estimator (Self-Perform Concrete) Job Description
This role leads cradle-to-grave project management for a growing self-perform concrete division, supporting approximately $56M in annual work. The Concrete Project Manager / Estimator oversees self-perform concrete projects from planning through closeout, ensures field and office alignment, and drives production efficiency, schedule adherence, and quality. The position is primarily project management focused, with estimating responsibilities embedded and training provided to expand estimating capabilities over time.
Responsibilities
- Manage self-perform concrete projects from inception through completion, providing cradle-to-grave ownership of scope, schedule, cost, quality, and safety.
- Support and expand the self-perform concrete division by removing project management burden from existing leadership and taking ownership of day-to-day project activities.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee self-perform work including curbs, sidewalks, flatwork, foundations, walls, splash pads, basketball courts, and wastewater or water treatment concrete structures.
- Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor construction quality, verify adherence to specifications, and ensure that work meets project standards.
- Track and manage project schedules, monitor critical path activities, and proactively address issues that could affect milestones or completion dates.
- Monitor and promote safety compliance on all job sites, ensuring that crews follow established safety procedures and requirements.
- Drive production efficiency within self-perform crews by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance, and holding teams accountable for productivity and workmanship.
- Coordinate closely with field leadership and other project stakeholders to align field operations with project plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Work in a hybrid field and office capacity, balancing on-site oversight with office-based planning, documentation, and coordination.
- Collaborate with estimating to develop and refine project bids, and gradually take on estimating responsibilities as training is provided.
- Assist in preparing takeoffs, cost estimates, and proposals for concrete work, including self-perform scopes for commercial, civil, and institutional projects.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including schedules, reports, and records related to production, quality, and safety.
- Work independently in a relatively new role with limited formal training, proactively identifying needs and implementing solutions to support growth of the concrete group.
Essential Skills
- Concrete project management experience with cradle-to-grave ownership of projects.
- At least 2+ years of experience in a concrete Project Manager / Estimator role.
- Hands-on experience working with self-perform concrete crews, not limited to general contractor oversight.
- Background in non-residential concrete work, including commercial, civil, or institutional projects.
- Experience with concrete scopes such as curbs, sidewalks, flatwork, foundations, walls, splash pads, basketball courts, and wastewater or water treatment structures.
- Ability to thrive in a hybrid field and office role, spending time both on job sites and in the office.
- Capability to work independently in a new role with limited formal training and structure.
- Strong project management and construction management skills focused on concrete operations.
- Familiarity with safety practices and the ability to monitor and enforce safety compliance on job sites.
- ACI certification or similar concrete-related certification (noted as a plus but strongly relevant to the role).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Any professional certifications related to concrete, construction management, or project management are considered a plus.
- Experience with water and wastewater treatment concrete work is highly beneficial.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with field leadership and self-perform crews to improve production efficiency and schedule adherence.
- Comfort working in a growing self-perform division and contributing to process improvements and future expansion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with field and office teams.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines concurrently.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid environment, with time split between on-site job locations and an office based at a warehouse located near the main office. The role involves frequent jobsite visits to active construction sites, including commercial, civil, institutional, and water or wastewater treatment projects, where conditions may include outdoor work, varying weather, and typical construction-site activity. Office work takes place in a warehouse-based office setting, where planning, coordination, documentation, and estimating activities occur. The work environment emphasizes safety, accountability, and collaboration with self-perform crews and field leadership. The role is structured as a salaried position and includes benefits such as a monthly truck reimbursement program (with different amounts based on vehicle age), a monthly phone reimbursement, and participation in company outings and events such as golf fundraisers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
