About this role

Mesirow is an independent, employee-owned financial services firm founded in 1937. Headquartered in Chicago, with offices across the country, Mesirow serves clients through capabilities spanning Private Capital & Currency, Capital Markets and Investment Banking, and Advisory Services.

We are currently seeking an intern to work in our IT departments Software Development team.  Mesirow internship positions are for savvy, adaptable students interested that are passionate about technology and capital markets. The internship is designed to help students gain some hands-on and real-world experience.

Responsibilities

- Own a defined summer project from requirements through delivery, and present a working demo at the end of the program

- Modify, maintain, and enhance existing software applications using C#, Python, SQL, and JavaScript

- Translate business requirements into functional code

- Provide support and maintenance duties when required

- Work closely with software development team, end-users, and management to define requirements

- Participate as a member of an agile Scrum team (sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives), using Azure DevOps and Git for work tracking and source control

- Learn modern engineering practices, including code review, cloud-native development, and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools, with guidance from experienced engineers

Requirements

- Current enrollment in a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Development

- Graduation in May 2028

- Must have GPA 3.5 or above

- Sound programming and data fundamentals, including an understanding of:

- Object Oriented

- ETL

- Procedural

- Functional

- Coursework or project experience in at least one of C#, Python, SQL, or JavaScript

- Preferred: familiarity with Git and version control, exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, and curiosity about AI-assisted development tools

- Knowledge and experience in the use of all Microsoft Office products

- Excellent analytical and math skills, with the ability to work in teams

- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner

- Ability to interact well with various levels of personnel

In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated compensation for the role will be $20.00 per hour for the duration of the program.
