Title: Mechanical Engineering Technician

Location:  Independence, MO

Salary: $ 72,000 to $93,000.
Schedule: 5 -8 hour shifts with overtime and some weekends as needed.

Focus: The Mechanical Engineering Technician provides hands-on mechanical and fabrication support for a ballistic testing facility. This position is responsible for designing, fabricating, modifying, installing, and maintaining mechanical mounts, test fixtures, equipment, and other specialized hardware used to support ballistic testing and evaluation.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, general machining knowledge, fabrication experience, and the ability to translate engineering concepts and drawings into functional hardware. This role requires a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and collaborate with engineers and test personnel to develop practical solutions in a demanding testing environment.

Mechanical Engineering Technician Job Functions:

- Design, fabricate, modify, install, and maintain mechanical mounts, test fixtures, tooling, and equipment used in ballistic testing and evaluation.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and specifications to fabricate and assemble mechanical components to required dimensions and tolerances.
- Utilize general machine shop equipment, hand tools, and power tools to machine, drill, cut, fit, assemble, and modify components.
- Perform mechanical fabrication, including welding, cutting, drilling, grinding, fitting, and assembly, to develop and support specialized test equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and fixtures and collaborate with engineers and test personnel to develop practical solutions that improve safety, reliability, and test performance.

Minimum Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance, machining, fabrication, manufacturing, or a related field.
- General machining knowledge and experience using machine shop equipment and precision measuring tools.
- Hands-on fabrication experience, including welding, cutting, drilling, fitting, or assembly highly preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical specifications, troubleshoot mechanical problems, and work independently in a hands-on testing environment

Location-Specific Requirements:

- Must possess a Valid US driver’s license.
- This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
- This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. The US Government does not allow non-US citizens on-site at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.  Therefore, to be considered in the hiring process, the candidate must be a US citizen.
