Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Business Technology (NBT) is growing its Enterprise Software Engineering team and is seeking AI Solutions Engineers to design, build, and operate the internal AI-enabled tools and platforms used by everyone at Nucor. This team builds at enterprise scale, creating the AI capabilities, developer tooling, and shared services that any team across Nucor can adopt.

You will write production code alongside a team of developers building internal AI tools: deciding where AI belongs in a workflow, selecting models and integration patterns, grounding them in Nucor's enterprise data, and keeping them reliable and safe once real teams depend on them. Define and maintain standards for high-quality AI-generated output, including evaluation frameworks and quality practices that ensure AI-assisted development is reliable, secure, and scalable across the enterprise.

Travel (up to 25%) is expected to support benchmarking, knowledge sharing, and internal development sessions with teammates.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Design, build, and operate AI-enabled internal tools and platforms used broadly across the enterprise, from model and pattern selection through production.

- Develop and maintain the AI code generation platform that developers across Nucor rely on to write, review, and ship code, evolving it as models, tooling, and best practices advance.

- Write and review production code as part of a development team, following enterprise engineering standards for reliability, security and maintainability.

- Ground AI capabilities in Nucor's enterprise data and business rules and integrate them into applications through governed interfaces and shared services.

- Define evaluation criteria for AI-generated output and build the methods that verify accuracy, reliability, and safety both before and after release.

- Partner with Enterprise Architecture, internal engineering teams, and technical stakeholders to establish AI-assisted development practices and quality standards, run discovery to surface high-value AI use cases, and drive adoption across the broader engineering organization.

- Apply responsible AI practices across the full lifecycle, from data handling and access control through ongoing monitoring.

- Build and maintain the data pipelines and integrations that put enterprise AI solutions into production.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or similar, or equivalent practical experience.

- 4+ years of experience in a technical role such as Software Engineer, Solutions Engineer, AI/ML Engineer, Systems Analyst, or Technical Consultant.

- Proficiency in Python and experience with at least one additional programming language (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#).

- Proven ability to design and deploy production applications, integrations, and data/AI solutions end-to-end, including pipelines and operationalization.

- Demonstrated experience building with LLMs or AI services in a production context at enterprise scale, not limited to prototypes or proofs of concept.

- Working knowledge of enterprise systems, APIs and data flows.

- Demonstrated success partnering with technical stakeholders across teams and business domains, running discovery, presenting findings, and driving adoption.

- Familiarity with AI concepts such as prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, model evaluation, or agent-based workflows.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience supporting or deploying AI-enabled or advanced analytics solutions at enterprise scale.

- Experience with Azure AI services, particularly Azure AI Foundry, and with identity-based authentication patterns such as managed identity.

- Experience creating and using MCP servers.

- Experience working in an enterprise IT environment with complex, integrated systems.

- Experience partnering with external vendors or solution providers.
