Job Title: Accounting Supervisor Job Description
The Accounting Operations Supervisor leads a team of accounting professionals to ensure accurate, timely, and well-controlled transaction processing and accounting support. This role sets clear expectations, manages weekly execution, and drives meaningful process improvements that strengthen performance and the overall control environment. The supervisor provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and guidance, while collaborating with internal and external partners to maintain high standards of operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise an accounting operations team, providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to support professional growth and performance.
- Set clear expectations and goals for team members, monitor progress, and evaluate performance to ensure accountability and achievement of objectives.
- Assign, direct, and review daily work to maintain efficient workflow and productivity, aligning tasks with individual skills and expertise.
- Provide clear instructions and constructive feedback to team members to support quality work and continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external partners, adapting communication style to different audiences and situations.
- Explain, reinforce, and ensure adherence to policies, practices, and procedures within the area of responsibility.
- Provide guidance to team members to promote understanding and compliance with accounting and operational standards.
- Analyze current procedures and processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and make impactful adjustments to enhance effectiveness and controls.
- Solve complex operational issues by applying critical thinking, professional experience, and an understanding of broader business impacts and operating principles.
- Drive operational performance by setting targets, prioritizing work, monitoring results, and taking action to ensure goals are met and department outcomes are improved.
- Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, cash reconciliations, and cash flow analysis to support accurate financial reporting.
- Support a controlled financial operations environment by maintaining strong oversight of transaction processing and accounting support activities.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of professional experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience leading and coaching a team in an accounting operations, finance operations, or transaction-processing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to assign and review work, manage priorities, and consistently deliver weekly operational objectives.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain policies and procedures clearly and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven problem-solving ability, including analyzing issues with broader operational impacts and implementing effective process changes.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger activities, including journal entries.
- Proficiency in cash reconciliation and cash flow analysis.
- Demonstrated management and supervisory skills in an operational accounting setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.
- Experience driving process improvement initiatives within accounting or finance operations.
- Familiarity with controlled financial operations environments and associated best practices.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and balance multiple operational demands.
- Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and situations to support collaboration and understanding.
Work Environment
This role offers a structured hybrid work arrangement following an initial onsite training period. The first 4 to 8 weeks will be in the office to build a solid knowledge base and ensure a strong understanding of processes and systems. As proficiency increases, onsite days will be reduced and the schedule will transition to a hybrid model. The team works in the office together every Tuesday and every other Monday, resulting in a pattern of 1 onsite day one week and 2 onsite days the next week, for a total of approximately 6 onsite days per month. The standard schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. The environment is focused on operational excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within a controlled financial operations setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Urbandale, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $41.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
